'Watch that instead of this w**k': Comedian Tom Gleeson makes crowd cringe by telling AACTA viewers to switch from Channel Seven to watch his show on ABC

The AACTA Awards ceremony is a night of warm celebrations as the best of Australian cinema and television arts are recognised by the nation.

But co-host Tom Gleeson took a moment at the 6th annual event, held in Sydney on Wednesday, to trash talk his competitors for producing 'w***k'.

The 42-year-old stand-up comedian failed to draw sincere laughter when he made cringe comments about ABC being a better channel than the host broadcaster.

He started on his tangent by suggesting the crowd had no idea who they were as they appeared on the ABC network.

Things began to escalate when gasps were heard as the radio presenter proclaimed: 'ABC shows are better than Channel Seven shows!'

'To all those at home watching Channel Seven we want you to know the ABC is so much better than Channel Seven,' he continued.

However, it was Tom's final comment which drew mixed reactions from the audience: 'I'm actually hosting a show on the ABC right now called Hard Quiz, you should tune into that. Watch that instead of this w***.'

The comedian was there to present the AACTA Award for best television drama series to Foxtel SoHo's Wentworth series, in which it was the only nomination not from the ABC in the category.
