Having broken the news that he tragically lost his mother to leukaemia on Friday, the star emerged from his hotel to smoke a cigarette before checking out.

Wrapped up against the cold in a thick white hoodie which he teamed with jeans and white slippers, the Doncaster-born singer cut an inconspicuous figure.

The singer had a rash of stubble covering his jawline and cheeks and he had left his unruly mane of brown hair un-styled.

The Hollywood starlet went for a sombre look, wearing a black overcoat, skinny jeans and boots.

Making sure to keep warm Danielle had a warm beige scarf coiled around her neck and a flourecent orange beanie pulled low over he brow.

Despite the earth-shattering news, Louis managed to hold himself together during a live performance on the X Factor on Saturday.

Premiering his first solo effort, Just Hold On, the star gave an energetic performance as he ran around the stage, after which the judges gave a standing ovation to Louis, who looked pensive as he hugged Steve following the performance.

In a touching tribute, Simon Cowell said: 'Louis, I have to say I've known you for six years. The bravery of what you've done. I respect you as an artist, as a person and your mum was so proud of you and she was so excited for the performance. She's looking down on you tonight.'

Addressing his 25.3 million followers, he wrote: 'All the support has been incredible! Let's do this together tonight.'

The performance was previously scheduled, with Johannah said to be looking forward to seeing her son back on the stage where he first shot to fame.
