The new Land Rover Discovery has proved a hit before buyers can even get one on the road, but the real verdict on the 4x4 will come when those new owners take it off the tarmac. More than 10,000 people have placed orders for the new Land Rover Discovery 4X4 - including 2,000 in the UK. To see what's in store for them, Ray Massey gets an early off-road test of the new Discovery.
Parking in London is the second most expensive in the world - and at £8.84 AN HOUR costs more than the living wage
The average cost to park for an hour in the centre of London is more than the newly increased national living wage of £7.50, new research has claimed. The cheapest city charges 55p an hour, according to a survey of parking costs around the world. The most pricey is New York, where it costs over £20 if you want to leave your car for an hour.
RAY MASSEY: Bentley's new diesel diamond should get you from London to Verbier on a single tank
Bentley's first diesel, the Bentayga, is also the world's fastest luxury diesel SUV, claims the company. It's no slouch off-road either, managing slippery slopes and rutted tracks with aplomb. With big 21 in wheels and powered by a triple-turbocharged four-litre V8 engine linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox (with manual paddles for added fun), it accelerates from rest to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 168 mph, yet will still manage 35.8 miles to the gallon with CO2 emissions of 210g/km.

Ford unveils the most technologically advanced Fiesta yet - and there's a crossover and up-market version of the UK's best-selling car
These are the first official pictures of the new-for-2017 Fiesta - a supermini Ford claims is the most technologically advanced. So will it still be the UK's favourite car this time next year? With the addition of a jacked-up crossover variant - the Active (top right) - and a premium Vignale offering (bottom right), it has a good chance of appealing to an even wider audience.
Crewe retains title as the UK's drink and drug-driving capital but Bristol takes the mantle as the worst place to drive
For every 1,000 drivers in Crewe there are 1.66 with a drink or drug-driving conviction, the highest rate anywhere in the UK - these are the top 10 locations with the most convictions of this type. But a combination of data says Bristol is the worst place to drive, according to new data from MoneySuperMarket.
Is it cheaper to run a new car or a second-hand model? We crunch the numbers on claims that showroom fresh vehicles save you money
New research by MoneySuperMarket has claimed that motorists could save almost a quarter on running costs if they choose a brand new car over a used one. It says a brand new Ford Fiesta, left, at £1,210 is cheaper to run than a five-year-old Fiesta, right. We check up on what that older car could cost and whether the claims stack up once you factor in purchase price, depreciation and real-world fuel consumption?
Say hello to the 194mph zero emissions hypercar: The NIO EP9 is the fastest electric vehicle round the Nürburgring - but needs a 45 minute charge after each lap
Zero to 62mph in 2.7 seconds with zero tailpipe emissions. That's the promise from Chinese electric car brand NextEV, which will make just six of these $1.2 million road racers for its investors. And if you're too impatient to wait three-quarters of an hour for the batteries to charge, you can eject the two lithium-ion packs from the side of the vehicle and replace them in eight minutes.
'Automotive Aladdin's cave' of 430 cars including 44 Ferraris and 72 Porches goes under the hammer after being seized from Italian businessman
A private collection of some of the 'rarest and most desirable supercars in the world', including a Ferrari 275 GTB/6C (top right), is to be sold after being seized from an Italian businessman. The impressive collection is made up of 44 Ferraris, 72 Porsches (seven are pictured in the main photograph) and 62 Jaguars including 21 E-Types. A £1.1million Maserati MC12 (top left) is also up for grabs. The cars were seized from a businessman by the Italian government and RM Sotheby's, which is hosting the auction, has likened the collection to an 'automotive Aladdin's Cave'. The sale will be held at Fiera Milano, a huge exhibition centre in Milan, Italy.
Alfa Romeo's resurgence continues as famous sporting Italian brand launches the Stelvio - its first ever SUV
Called the Stelvio, Alfa's SUV is named after the famous mountain pass in the Italian Alps and is set to get head-to-head with the Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace when it goes on sale in the UK next year. Picture's released today show the first views of the sporting SUV and we take a look at the details/
Skoda tested its new Kodiaq 7-seat SUV by lending one to a family with the UK's most extreme school run - we try it for size too
Skoda will enter the large SUV sector from next year, but before right-hand drive models arrive in 2017 the Jones family put the Kodiaq through its paces on a commute across country from their farm in Wales to school, via some of the nation's toughest terrain. We get their verdict on the Skoda Kodiaq and put it to the test too, but strictly on tarmac.
The ultimate his and hers cars? Essex dealer lists matching white Ferrari 458 and McLaren 675LT for sale - but you have to buy the pair for £700K
Imagine your dream car garage and there's a very good chance that it may feature both of these stunners. For one lucky buyer that fantasy could soon become a reality. But they'll need £700,000 to spare and enough room to store two ultra-collectible supercars, in the form of the Ferrari 458 Speciale (left) and McLaren 675LT (right). And the dealer has said the cars come strictly as a pair.
This is the 'new' Volkswagen Golf... honest. Can you spot the 10 updated features on the refreshed but very familiar-looking hatchback?
Even a double or triple take of these first-release images of the 2017 car make it hard to identify any differences to the Golf currently on sale. Yet, while it might look the same it does have a new infotainment system, automatic gearbox and semi-autonomous driving features. Here are the 10 new elements of the familiar-looking Golf you'll struggle to spot
Classic Ferrari dubbed 'Holy Grail' of motoring is set to become world's most expensive car as it goes on sale for £45MILLION (the price of 4,500 Fiestas)
The Ferrari 250 GTO is the most sought-after classic car because of its perfect blend of looks, rarity and performance on both the track and public road. Just 36 were built by the Italian manufacturer and this blue, 1962 model was the second to roll off the production line. It was raced at Le Mans and Sebring and, despite being more than 50 years old, is capable of 0-60mph in less than six seconds and a top speed of more than 170mph.
ON THE ROAD: NEW CARS AND TESTS
You know those supercar giveaways at the airport you think nobody ever wins? Actually, they do... We meet the man behind it and some of the winners
William Hindmarch setup BOTB in 1999, first venturing into Heathrow with a Porsche he had to clean with bottles of Evian because there were no taps on site. Now, thousands of people use his site every week to play for luxury vehicles. We chatted to some of the people who've won over the last two years.
What is the most popular car colour? As figures show an 84% rise in brown vehicles, we reveal the top ten
There are some 30 million cars on the road in the UK today. The most popular colour accounts for 6.8 million so can you guess which one it is? The RAC has been digging into the data to find out which tones are on the up and which ones are going out of fashion. We reveal the answer based on DVLA stats.
CLASSIC CARS AND AUCTIONS
Do ya think it's sexy? Rod Stewart's old Lamborghini Miura worth £900,000 joins U2 bassist Adam Clayton's Maserati in classic sale
If you're interested in classic cars with a rock and roll past, these two hugely collectible vehicles have previous owners boasting a mass of number one hits and sell-out tours. The 1971 Lamborghini Miura, top was once owned by Rod Stewart, top right, while the 1972 Maserati Ghibli, bottom, was owned by Adam Clayton, bottom right.
Weird, wacky and wonderful: Ten of the best cars sold at the Goodwood Revival auction, from the £4.5m Porsche to a £113,000 MG Metro 6R4
As far as eclectic car auctions go, last weekend's Bonhams sale at the Goodwood Revival had one of the best arrays of assorted automobiles we've seen this year. It had everything from pre-war endurance racers to iconic 80s Group B rally cars as well as hugely collectible classics and an amphibious military vehicle.
