Sibling rivalry! Beyonce leads field with SEVEN NAACP Image Award nominations... and will face off with sister Solange for female artist gong

It can hardly be called much of a sibling rivallry.

But the embers will surely be burning bright at the NAACP Image Awards next year, as it has emerged on Tuesday Beyonce is leading the nominations field just ahead of her sister Solange.

Beyonce received seven nods, including entertainer of the year, outstanding female artist and best album, for Lemonade.

Solange earned five Image Award nods, including for female artist and best album for A Seat At The Table, which has received relatively positive reviews.

It is more good news for Beyonce, who last week topped the Grammy Award nominations table with nine nods.

The sisters go head-to-head for the outstanding female artist title, along with Alicia Keys, Fantasia and K. Michelle.

Beyonce's competitors in the entertainer of the year category are Viola Davis, Regina King, Dwayne Johnson and Chance the Rapper.

Other top Image Award nominees include Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar, with four bids each.

Birth of a Nation filmmaker Nate Parker and Atlanta TV series creator Donald Glover each earned nominations as writer, director and stars of their respective projects.

Director Parker's success comes despite being embroiled in controversy over a 17-year-old rape case, despite the fact he was acquitted, after it emerged the alleged victim had committed suicide.

Competing with Birth of a Nation for best movie are Fences, Hidden Figures, Loving and Moonlight.

On the small scree Atlanta, Black-ish, Insecure, Survivor's Remorse and The Carmichael Show are fighting it out for comedy honors.

Best drama series nods went to Empire, Power, Queen Sugar, This Is Us and Underground.

Top male artist nominees are Anthony Hamilton, Bruno Mars, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar and Maxwell.

The NAACP Image Awards honor accomplishments of black people working in TV, music, literature and film, and also recognize people and groups that promote social justice through creative endeavors.

LeBron James is to receive the NAACP Jackie Robinson Sports Award, the civil rights group said.

The February 11 ceremony airs on TV One, and will be hosted by Black-ish star Anthony Anderson, who has also been nominated for an award.
