But on Sunday night, Tom Daley let his partner Dustin Lance Black take centre stage at the Roma Fiction Fest in Italy.
The Olympic diver, 22, was by his screenwriter fiancé's side as they turned out for the the premiere of When We Rise.

The Oscar winner's new series focus on the trials and tribulations of LGBT activists as they try to get equal rights in the 1960s.
Starring a stellar cast including Guy Pearce, Rachel Griffiths, Mary-Louise Parker, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael K. Williams and Whoopi Goldberg the seven-part miniseries has already attracted some major attention.
It was premiered at the Italian festival and the Milk writer also scooped the Excellence Award for the show's first episode.
Taking to Twitter, Dustin wrote: 'Thank you Rome and the Roma Fiction Fest for a magnificent premiere of, and the for episode one of When We Rise.'

Tom was equally as pleased about the 42-year-old's achievements, tweeting: 'So proud of this one tonight. :) I can't wait for you to see "When We Rise"! It's never been more important to be excepting and inclusive.'
The new period piece tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969.
It follows on from Dustin's hugely acclaimed film Milk, which focused on the story of activist and politician, Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California.
Sean Penn played the figure - who was assassinated in 1978 - in the 2008 biographical movie and won Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
The movie scooped another seven gongs, including Dustin's Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
