They may be headed to the altar on television, but Meghan Markle had to miss out on co-star Patrick J. Adams' wedding this weekend.

Markle was spotted out and about bundled up in Toronto's chilly weather while Adams said 'I do' to Pretty Little Liars' actress Troian Bellisario in sunny California.

It appears Markle's own budding fame was to blame for her absence.

The 35-year-old actress - who plays Adams' fiancée on the USA Network show - did not want to overshadow the newlyweds on their special day as she continues to make headlines for her relationship with Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle was spotted out shopping with a friend believed to be Jessica Mulroney, daughter-in-law of former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney, in Toronto on Sunday

Markle and Mrs Mulroney walked arm in arm as they walked through the snow, the actress holding two shopping bags from the successful trip

A source told US Weekly the co-stars spoke before the wedding and agreed that 'maybe her coming would attract too much (of the wrong kind of attention).'

'They both thought it sucked,' the source added.

The absence was no doubt hard for the co-stars, who have worked on Suits together since it premiered in 2011, but Markle found ways to pass the time this weekend.

She was spotted heading to a yoga class in Toronto on Saturday, dressed down in a pair of white sneakers and a khaki green jacket with a matching scarf.

And on Sunday the actress didn't let a little snow stop her from hitting the shops with girlfriend Jessica Mulroney, the daughter-in-law of former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney.

Markle was dressed casually for the outing, wearing ripped blue jeans and a green coat with a fur collar, while a simple black beanie protected her hair.

She capped off the outfit with a pair of stylish suede camel ankle booties.

Markle and her friend walked arm in arm as they trudged through the falling snow as the actress grasped two shopping bags before getting into a car.

Markle posted a photo of a girl sitting on a train, looking up at a sign that reads: 'In a society that profits from your self doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act.'

She then captioned the photo: 'In that case, be a rebel, friends'.

The prince and Markle were reunited just last weekend when he made a 1,700-mile detour to visit her on the way home from a 14-day tour of the Caribbean.

Harry, 32, had been scheduled to fly directly to London from Barbados but instead stopped off in Toronto, where Suits is filmed.

A source has said the couple will reunite soon for a week-long romantic getaway.

Meanwhile Adams and Bellisario, who got engaged in January 2014 after three years of dating, tied the knot in front of 200 guests in Southern California on Saturday.

Us Weekly reports that the camping themed event was part of a three-day celebration and that some of the actors' co-stars were in attendance.

The Pretty Little Liars beauty, 31, wore a white Cortana gown with sheer sleeves while Patrick, 35, wore a navy blue three-piece Ralph Lauren suit.

Guests included Suits star Sarah Rafferty, Star Trek's Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto and Scandal's Katie Lowes and husband Adam Shapiro.

Troian's co-stars Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Sasha Pieterse, Keegan Allen, Ian Harding and Tyler Blackburn were all in attendance as well.

The ceremony itself took place in a secluded wooded area with guests sitting on vintage wooden theater chairs.

Guests were put up in glamorous tents around the venue and the couple, as well as some friends and family were transported to the reception in a converted school bus with the words 'Almost Married' written on the back.

Instead of gifts Patrick and Troian encouraged guests to donate to the David Suzuki Foundation and SickKids Hospital.

The TV stars met in 2009 while co-starring in the play Equivocation.
