The Ryan king: Reynolds beat namesake Gosling for the Best Comedy Actor gong at the Critics' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday
However the most satisfying moment of the night for the 40-year-old star was surely when he made an emotional speech after also winning the Entertainer Of The Year award.
He told the audience: 'I would like to dedicate this honor to the Make-a-Wish foundation, and the Sick Kids Foundation of Toronto, two incredible organisations who do so much for so many kids in need.
'And I would also like to dedicate this award to the memories of my friends Connor McGrath and Grace Bowen.
Pride of the nation: The only way the moment could have been more Canadian was if the hunks had been drizzled in maple syrup
A victory for style: Gosling's tieless look was no match for his conqueror Ryan's classic fashion mode
Who won? The La La Land star gave a subtle hint as they posed together
'They didn't lose the battle, they started a fight and it's up to us to finish it.'
The star previously won plaudits after dressing up as his superhero character Deadpool and visiting fans suffering from cancer in hospital.
He donned character's costume before visiting Tony Acevedo, a little boy battling Hodgkin's disease, for the Make-A-Wish Foundation back in 2015.
Mr Blake Lively also acknowledged his hero Tom Hanks after he beat off Ryan Gosling to take home the Best Actor In A Comedy paperweight.
All smiles: The beefcake grinned as he was presented with the Best Comedy Actor award by Cuba Gooding Jr
Serious moment: He hailed the work of the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Sick Kids Foundation Of Toronto as he accepted the Entertainer Of The Year gong
Dedication: Ryan dedicated his award to the memories of two of his friends who died of cancer
He told the Sully star: 'You're a huge influence on me.
'My two-year-old daughter, the first full sentence she ever said was, "There's no crying in baseball." I'm not kidding.'
The latter was a reference to his character Jimmy Dugan's famous tirade as he gave Bitty Schram's character a dressing down in 1992 comedy hit A League of Their Own.
Inspiration: The Deadpool star also heaped praise on Tom Hanks as he gave a victory speech
Breaking out the bubbly: The thirsty star celebrated with a bottle of champagne at his table
Turn-up for the books: Even he seemed stunned he had won an award for his acting
But while Gosling may have missed out on individual glory, he still had plenty to smile about.
For his film won eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
It was arguably a case of fashion just desserts, for while Reynolds opted for a classic look of tuxedo and bow tie, Gosling made a blunder by following the tieless trend despite the fact he was attending a black tie event.
Stage left: Ryan was stuck near the wings when the cast took to the stage to accept an award
Lovely pair: But he had the last laugh when he posed up with his lovely co-star Emma Stone
Giving her a hand: He also got to grips with the ravishing redhead as they headed to the stage
