A search is underway for a man who broke into a house and assaulted two women, one sexually, early on Thursday.

There were children in the house at the time of the attack, Nine News reported.

Police search the area near where the attack occurred early on Thursday morning

Police attended the scene of the attack about 5.30am after being alerted

The male suspect was described as a Caucasian aged in his mid-20s, about 185cms tall, wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

Despite scouring the area just after the assault, police could not find the offender.

Residents from the area were uneasy and described the street as normally quiet, The Advertiser reported.

One man described seeing police and sniffer dogs swarming the area, while another was 'astounded' at the attack.

Devi Adhikari, 26, said her mother, who lived on the street, concerned about what had taken place.

Elizabeth Police and the Special Crimes Investigation Branch are investigating the incident.

The targeted attack took place at a property on Ifould Road in north Adelaide
