Loved-up Prince Harry turns Action Man as he joins aid workers for a mock-tornado exercise in Norway

New footage of Prince Harry shows him joining a major disaster simulation exercise in Norway to see how aid workers coped with a country being hit by a tornado.

The charity MapAction filmed the Prince visiting a temporary outdoor crisis centre set up near Stavanger in September, as volunteers practised coordinating relief efforts via maps to help save lives.

The humanitarian response centred on dealing with the aftermath of a mock-tornado that swept through a Scandinavian country.

The video was filmed in September when Harry joined the charity MapAction which provides up-to-date maps for aid workers, featuring vital information in times of disaster. 

They work to highlight areas where medical help is needed, working bridges and transport routes, and, in the wake of earthquakes, potential landing sites for helicopters.

Prince Harry was filmed praising the volunteers: 'It's proven. Without all these maps and without your knowledge and without the time you're able to give up as a volunteer, I dread to think what would be happening.

'Essentially, what MapAction are doing is bringing order to chaos. It's the glue that binds everybody together.'

The prince, who was spotted buying a Christmas tree with actress girlfriend Meghan Markle in London on Tuesday, is the charity's patron and a long-standing supporter of its work.

In MapAction's video, Harry can be seen arriving by helicopter and visiting the tents where volunteers busied on laptops and created the maps needed to help efficiently tackle the pretend disaster.

'Considering how few people there are, it is unbelievable what they can actually produce and achieve,' Prince Harry said.

'MapAction's involvement in disaster response - it's helping more people in a shorter space of time and it starts saving lives as soon as possible.'

More than 250 people from different humanitarian organisations gathered to take part. The footage was released ahead of MapAction's BBC Radio 4 Appeal on Christmas Day, which is being presented by the comedian and presenter Alexander Armstrong.

The charity has a team of more than 70 volunteers, who are deployed within 24 to 48 hours of a rapid onset emergency. Their first mission was to Sri Lanka for the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004.

Since then, they have undertaken 64 emergency missions including helping with the Mediterranean refugee crisis and the West African Ebola outbreak.
