They say Christmas is a time for giving - and one barmy dog-lover has taken that motto to another level, after shelling out £3,500 on a lavish Christmas for her pampered pooches.

Katy Harris splashes out hundreds of pounds every month on her three Boston terriers - and December is even more extravagant than usual.

Katy Harris gives her spoiled pooches a taste of the meal they might expect come Christmas Day - when she shells out £3,500 on a lavish Christmas for her pampered pooches

The mollycoddled mutts will be spoiled with hundreds of pounds worth of festive treats and presents on the big day, before tucking into a lavish three-course Christmas dinner.

Katy, 45, has even spent more on the pups than she has on husband Mark, 60 - but she said by now he is used to being left in the doghouse as she focuses her attention on her beloved pooches.

Katy, from Middlewich, Cheshire, said: 'I love to spoil them all year round, and even more so at Christmas - they deserve it!

'I buy a lot of things for them throughout the year - I'm always thinking about what they might like.

'You often don't realise how much you've bought over the year, and it does quickly add up.

'I can easily pop out to the shops to get them one thing, and come out having spent more than £1,000.

'I often have to hide receipts from Mark, or I just don't tell him - if he knew how much I'd spent he'd have a heart attack!

'I've definitely spent more on the dogs than I have on Mark this Christmas.

'He's quite happy for me to spoil them though, he'll roll his eyes at some of the things I get them but he loves them as much as I do - and he's used to me going over-the-top with them by now.

'We don't have children, so the dogs are like our babies.'

The trio of Boston terriers even have their own miniature tree, as well as special decorations scattered around the house.

If she's not spoiling the dogs, Katy is splashing out on dog-themed decorations and presents for her nearest and dearest - she has a puppy surprise up her sleeve for Mark's present, and has splashed out hundreds of pounds on a special Christmas-themed photoshoot of the pooches.

Katy, who works in hospitality, said: 'Some people think I'm a bit barmy, but they know that's just what I'm like'

Katy, who works in hospitality, said: 'Some people think I'm a bit barmy, but they know that's just what I'm like.

'People call me a crazy Boston mummy, but it's all a bit of fun really and I like them to have the best, especially at Christmas.

'They all love Christmas, and they get so excited - they can smell any treats in their stocking, and they'll ferret around to try and find out what it is, just like kids peeking at their presents!

'I do like to go all out - as well as their advent calendars and stockings they have special Christmas outfits, and everything needs to be co-ordinated so I buy three of everything.

'I do them a "doggified" Christmas dinner, with chicken, steamed veg and gravy, which I arrange in their bowls like a traditional Christmas lunch.

'They also get special tins of three bird roast dog food from Lily's Kitchen, which they love.

'A lot of the house is decorated with Boston terrier things too - I have special baubles and a Christmas jumper with a Boston on.

'If you've got to have an obsession with something it's a nice one to have - I'd only spend money on handbags otherwise.

'Boston terriers are just such fun dogs - they love life, they love everybody and everything, and at Christmas they know something special is going on and it's so sweet.

'People might say I'm crazy - but as long as the dogs have a great Christmas, that's all I care about.'

She added: 'I do like to go all out - as well as their advent calendars and stockings they have special Christmas outfits, and everything needs to be co-ordinated so I buy three of everything'
