Could three fistfuls of vegetables at dinner time be the 'magic pill' for weight loss? Expert claims it is... but eating a range of colours is the key
- Dietitian Peta Carige has worked with teams including Brisbane Broncos
- She says increasing vegetables you eat for dinner will help you lose weight
- Ms Carige calls it the only 'magic pill' for weight loss with proven results
As far as weight loss tips go, it's incredibly simple.
An expert claims simply eating three fistfuls of different coloured vegetables for dinner every evening will help you shed the kilos in no time.
Sports dietitian Peta Carige believes in her method so much that she's even dubbed it the 'magic pill' for weight loss.
Simple: Peta Carige claims eating three 'fists' of different coloured vegetables for dinner every evening will help you shed the kilos in no time
'I swear, if all of us just ate more vegetables, we would be much healthier. If you regularly eat three fists of veggies, you will lose weight,' she told Daily Mail Australia.
Ms Carige is the nutrition of choice to some of the nation's biggest sporting teams including the Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles and is also helped the Australian Women's Rugby Sevens team to Olympic glory.
She says her rule is one that she uses with the athletes she works with.
'I use it with all the athletes I work with and when I ask them how many vegetables they should be eating, they all know the answer,' she said.
'I promise this is the only ‘magic pill’ that has been proven time and time again to result in weight loss,' she added to Husskie.
Magic: Simply upping the amount of vegetables on your dinner plate is one way to quickly shrink the waist line, she said
Ms Carige says that only four per cent of Australians are eating the recommended five serving of vegetables a day.
And she insists that simply upping the amount of vegetables on your dinner plate is one way to quickly shrink the waist line.
She says you'll end up losing weight without too much effort as nutritious veggies will fill you up and make you less likely to opt for snacks afterwards.
'If you increase the amount of vegetables you're eating, your much less likely to snack after dinner and reduce the amount of carbs and protein you're eating,' she said.
And eating different coloured vegetables is a way to ensure you receive a wider range of nutritional benefits. For instance, red capsicums are a good source of vitamin D while dark green vegetables are rich in antioxidants.
Ms Carige also advises those looking to be healthier in 2017 to change one bad habit in their diet.
This can be something like cutting wine with dinner in the evening from two glasses to one or ditching the sugar in your morning coffee every morning.
The small change is much easier to maintain in the long run, she says, and will mean it's less likely you'll quit just a few days into the New Year.
'Small changes that you can maintain will result in a healthier you long term and you will see some sustainable weight loss without even realising,' she said.
