Get a present for Carrie? Harrison Ford escapes Fisher affair controversy by going on Christmas shopping spree

He became embroiled in scandal after Carrie Fisher revealed they had a torrid affair while filming Star Wars.

So it seems unlikely Harrison Ford will have bought anything for her stocking as he went on a Christmas shopping spree in Beverly Hills on Tuesday.

But the ageing action man, who was married at the time of their supposed fling, showed he has lost none of his vigour as he carried a bundle of boxes back to his car, the eco-friendly star bringing his Telsa Model S.

The 74-year-old was looking great for his age as he emerged from Barney's New York in a blue shirt, jeans and brown boots.

But it seems the Indiana Jones star is finally developing a Crystal Skull of his own, going by his artfully arranged comb-over.

Back in 2010 Harrison dismissed his turn as Han Solo, the role that kick-started his career, saying: 'As a character, he was not so interesting to me.'

And he famously lambasted series creator George Lucas over his corny dialogue, telling him: 'You can type this s***, but you sure has hell can’t say it.'

However he soon changed his tune when a bumper pay day came his way to appear in The Force Awakens.

He was paid over 50 times more than his young co-stars to reprise his turn as the smuggler, earning around $20 million, rediscovering his love for the franchise in the process.

And to make the appearance all the sweeter, his character was killed off once and for all after being stabbed with a lightsaber by his son Kylo Ren.

The dramatic moment came after they bumped into each other on the latest cack-handed attempt at building a Death Star-esque superweapon, this time the Empire derivative First Order's fatally flawed Starkiller Base.

And it seems filming the original film was not all bad for the actor, for his co-star Carrie Fisher recently revealed they had a torrid affair while filming the first movie.

She was 19 at the time of the affair in 1976, 14 years younger than Ford, then 33. He was also married at the time to Mary Marquardt and was a father-of-two.

In her new memoir The Princess Diarist she wrote: 'It was so intense. It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.'

Fisher said she had never spoken of the affair for 40 years but felt the time for secrecy was over.

She said: 'Harrison's very private, but I think I waited an appropriate amount of time. How much longer could I wait?'
