He recently revealed he is battling prostate cancer, and Joe Simpson has been focusing on his family in the wake of the diagnoses.

On Tuesday the 58-year-old spent some time doting on two of his beautiful grandchildren, Maxwell and Ace.

The father of Jessica and Ashley clearly loved spending time with the youngsters and took pictures of them playing, which he then shared to Instagram.

Joe was at the playground with Jessica's two children after attending their Christmas concert.

The first photo he shared showed four-year-old Maxwell, who is the spitting image of her famous mother, dressed in black and playing in the sand.

'Miss Maxwell after her stellar performance. Digging for hidden treasure...' Joe captioned the snap.

Joe was equally impressed with little Ace and posted a snapshot of the three-year-old with a sand-filled spade in each hand.

On both of the Instagram photos he added the hashtag: '#grandchildrenarethebest'.

It's been a rough year for Joe, who confirmed in early November that he has prostate cancer.

It was also revealed he has undergone surgery and is already back at work.

'He's feeling great now and is optimistic,' a source close to Simpson told People. 'He's felt so much love and support from his family and friends.'

As well as Jessica, Joe is father to singer Ashlee Simpson, 32, who is married to Diana Ross' son Evan.
