She let her long black mane flow as she held onto a sleepy Livingston.

The actor, who shed 38 pounds for his Academy Award-winning performance as social firebrand Ron Woodroof in 2013's Dallas Buyers Club, revealed on Wednesday's Ellen that once again, he underwent dramatic change to his waistline in preparing for his role in the upcoming dramatic thriller Gold.

The secret to his success: Matthew revealed that he put on 40 pounds for Gold, in his Wednesday appearance on Ellen

Whatever it takes: After losing nearly 40 pounds for 2013's Dallas Buyers Club (left), the actor added 40 to his frame for the upcoming Gold

In the Stephen Gaghan-directed film, McConaughey plays a portly businessman named Kenny Wells, whose money troubled lead him onto an exhibition of the Indonesian jungle in search of golden returns.

To make it convincing, the Texan added an additional 40 pounds, which he told Ellen DeGenenres came through a gluttonous diet of 'cheeseburgers and beer for eight months whenever I wanted them.'

The A-list sex symbol's turn to junk food was welcomed by his family, who indulged also when the dinner bell rang.

Big man: The dramatic thriller is one of the most-anticipated releases of the new year

Happy together: McConaughey and Alves, seen here at an LA premiere earlier this month, have been one of Hollywood's most stable high-profile couples over the years

'My nickname in the household was Captain Fun, my wife misses all 217 pounds of me and the kids do too, because it was pizza night any night,' joked The Lincoln Lawyer actor, who said that he felt fine, physically, as he packed on the pounds with a ravenous appetite for junk food.

'The only thing that makes you tired from overindulging is the thought of quitting. And I never got tired. I slept great; I had great energy.'

Gold, which also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramírez and Stacy Keach, hits theaters January 27.

Well-earned: McConaughey, Alves and the three children were front-and-center when the star was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in November of 2014

Family unit: The group was snapped on this NYC trip in August of 2012, when Camila was pregnant with Livingston
