They say you only really get to know someone after you say 'I do' but some people have been left shocked by the discoveries they've made about their partners.

Responding to a thread on Reddit, dozens of men and women came forward with submissions and while some were light-hearted, other stories tackled more serious issues.

Indeed, one woman said she discovered on the day that she returned from honeymoon that her husband has a 50 / 50 chance of having Huntington's Disease - an incurable, hereditary brain disorder.

Another man discovered that his wife was a religio, another found her man was a pro juggler after ten years of marriage, a man realised his wife had no idea how to cook and one lady was delighted to discover that she'd married into one of the wealthiest families in the world.
