Dad-to-be Liam Payne hangs out at the recording studio in LA... after confirming to fans his solo album is on the way

He signed a recording contract of his own in July after One Direction went on hiatus.

And Liam Payne's pop career appears to be going from strength to strength after he was seen at a recording studio in LA on Thursday.

The singer, 23, looked in good spirits as he chatted to a friend outside the studios on a break - clearly happy to be back in the world of music.

Feelin good: Liam Payne, 24, looked upbeat on Thursday after he was seen at a recording studio in LA - having recently confirmed his solo album was 'coming soon'

Liam looked every inch the modern pop star as he clad himself in  simple but stylish ripped black jeans and a T-shirt, leaving his trademark tattoos on show.

Giving the look an urban, trendy edge he teamed the outfit with sporty black trainers, and added a chunky gold chain and a large flat cap as accessories.

The Wolverhampton native looked upbeat as he chatted animatedly with a friend outside, before he took a quick phone call and headed back to the studio.

Liam was no doubt working on some new tracks at the establishment - having recently confirmed he is following in the footsteps of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson and releasing solo material.

In a Twitter Q&A session held on Saturday, he was asked by a fan when his debut solo album will be out - to which he replied 'I'm making it right now.'

Then more playfully, he confirmed its impending release to another fan by writing: 'listen yeahhhhhh albums coming soon!!!!!! Hol tight for da rewind (sic)'

However the former 1D star went on to explain to his fans that his music has been delayed slightly by a bout of illness.

He explained on the social media site: 'I am at home and am sick so I can't record at the moment.'

Liam took to his Twitter to announce he had signed a deal with Capitol Records in July - the same label that manages his bandmate Niall, who recently scored a UK top 10 hit with his debut This Town.

Despite the One Direction boys now embarking on their own projects since going on hiatus at the end of last year, Liam also reassured fans that the troupe were not splitting up for good.

When asked if the band will get back together in the Q&A, he responded confidently with: 'I'm [100 per cent] certain that we will.'

Comeback kids: When asked if One Direction will ever get back together in the same Q&A, he responded confidently with: 'I'm [100 per cent] certain that we will'

His confirmation of their future comeback comes after Niall insisted the same to the Sunday People.

Talking to the publication late last month, the Irish star said of the boyband: 'We will back. We would be silly not to... ridiculous.'

Before adding: 'At the moment we are all doing our own thing. Harry wanted to do his movie and everyone is just chilling.'

Liam's music career is not the only thing occupying his time however - with his personal life and relationship with girlfriend Cheryl keeping his attention, too.

The couple, who confirmed their romance in February, are reportedly expecting their first child together.

Despite Cheryl showing off what appeared to be a visible baby bump during an outing with Liam to a Christmas carol concert last month, the couple have so far kept quiet about the pregnancy rumours.

Strength to strength: Liam's personal life appears to be on the up too - with him and his girlfriend Cheryl, who confirmed their romance in February, reportedly expecting their first child together
