UPDATED The incident took place around 3am on Saturday at the Hendersonville home of Benny Birchfield, 79, who was married to Shepard for close to five decades before she passed away at the age of 82 this past September of Parkinson's disease. Birchfield, right, was outside the home when police arrived on the scene and had been stabbed multiple times. Inside the home, Shepard's 18-year-old daughter Icie Hawkins, inset, was also found with multiple stab wounds and rushed to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. Travis Sanders,21, left, was also found inside after being shot dead by Birchfield. Prosecutors have decided they will not charge him with the killing of his assailant.

UPDATED Bodycam footage has emerged of police discovering former Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd asleep at the wheel of his car in Arizona. Floyd (pictured left being questioned by police, bottom inset with the Cardinals, and right asleep in his car), 27, was arrested on two DUI counts and other charges on December 12, after police investigating a stopped car at traffic lights in Scottsdale and found him laid back and unconscious in the driver's seat. Now the bodycam of the arresting officer has been released by the Scottsdale Police Department, revealing Floyd's awkward arrest in detail, AZfamily.com reported.

President Barack Obama has invoked a law to indefinitely ban drilling for oil and gas across enormous parts of US waters - and President-elect Donald Trump won't be able to repeal it. Alan Thicke's wife Tanya is opening up about the untimely death of her husband. Massachusetts woman, Michelle Carter (main center), 20, who is accused of sending her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III (inset left) text messages encouraging him to kill himself, will stand trial in March. A judge set March 6 as the trial date for Carter, who is charged with manslaughter in the 2014 death of Roy. He was 18 years old when he died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carter's defense attorney, Joseph Cataldo (right), told Taunton Juvenile Court Judge Lawrence Moniz that a March date is too soon and that he needs until April or May to properly prepare. Moniz told Cataldo that they were 'not going to put it out that far'. In the 2014 incident, prosecutors say Carter, then 17, had sent him dozens of messages urging him to follow through on his suicide plan.

Music legend Richard Marx stepped up to the plate, when an unruly passenger got violent on his Korean Air flight. The Grammy Award-winning rocker was on a flight from Hanoi, Vietnam to Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday when a man sitting a row away from him started attacking flight attendants and other passengers. In posts on Facebook, Marx and his wife - TV presenter Daisy Fuentes - say he aided the 'ill-equipped' stewardesses in restraining the passenger for nearly the entire four-hour flight.

Anderson Cooper (left, inset middle) and Benjamin Maisani (right)cheered up a sanctuary full of rescued elephants  on Tuesday afternoon. The CNN host and his boyfriend stopped by the Green Hill Valley Elephant Camp in Myanmar and decided to help out some of the mistreated mammals by washing them down. This required that both Cooper and Maisani strip down and take off their shirts, which put the men's taut abdomens, bulging biceps and wide shoulders on full display. Cooper later posted a few photos on Instagram from the afternoon of feeding and washing the animals (couple inset bottom).

Angela Rye was randomly selected for additional screening at Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week and was told by a TSA agent that they needed to do a 'backhanded pat around the upper thigh'. When Rye complained, the manager called an officer to escort her from airport. Instead the officer, who Rye said 'understood her fear', agreed to film the pat-down, which Rye wanted done in public. Rye said agent went up her dress and hit her twice in the vagina during pat-down. She burst into tears and the officer immediately offered to write up incident report.

A captivating timelapse video has caught the entire Alaskan day over the course of just 18 seconds. The clip was shot in Fairbanks, Alaska which enjoys less than four hours of sunlight during the winter months. The footage shows the sun barely rising over the horizon and hovering for a short time near the rooftops before setting again. On Wednesday, the shortest day of the year, the run will rise at 11am and sets just after lunch at 2:40pm. Bill Staley set his camera to take a single frame every 30 seconds over the course of five hours - and captured dawn to dusk in one of the most northern parts of the United States.

Ben and Hannah Hinders hadn't seen their relatives or friends for 10 months. They surprised new grandparents, aunts and many friends, who couldn't believe they had been able to keep their daughter Ivy a secret. It's been 25 years since Steve Martin's Father of the Bride brought laughs and eye rolls to dads of daughters everywhere. Animal expert Coyote Peterson (left and bottom right after being stung) travelled to Costa Rica in search of the bullet ant (top right) - infamous for its sting which is meant to feel similar to being shot. A video shows the daredevil holding the ant against his arm with a pair of forceps. He suddenly screams in pain as the bullet ant plunges its stinger directly into a vein on his left forearm, getting its barb stuck underneath his skin. Mr Peterson shows his arm to the camera and it can be seen to have already gone bright red as it spasms. The adventurer explains that he is feeling 'radiating waves of pain', with the sting expected to cause him agony for 24 hours at least.

UPDATED Everyone needs a great big cuddle sometimes, and Afia the baby gorilla more than most. Since her birth in Bristol Zoo in February, she has been hand-reared by keepers. Yesterday she was introduced to her foster mother. Afia was photographed yesterday snuggling up in the arms of protective Romina, one of the older females in the troop of six Western lowland gorillas at Bristol Zoo, as it was confirmed the infant has fully integrated with her fellow primates and is now spending 24 hours a day with them. Staff were forced to step in after Afia's natural mother was physically incapable of caring for the new arrival.

Australian surfer Jamie Mitchell made history on Tuesday, winning the World Surf League Big Wave Tour Nazaré Challenge at Praia do Norte. The thirty-nine-year-old surfing legend from Coffs Harbour, NSW, was a clear standout, taking on a 10-metre (32 foot) wave to beat Brazilian rival Carlos Burlé in the final.
