In June it was reported that Abramovich had won approval to build a luxury mansion in New York.

The 50-year-old tycoon had reportedly spent months battling to turn three landmarked townhouses into one 18,000 square-foot, five-story abode.

At first, the plans were rejected as 'uniformity over authenticity'. They proposed to redesign the front of one house to look like the other two.

But the Landmarks Preservation Commission finally gave Abramovich the green light.

It was also reported that Abramovich had won approval to build a near-identical home in London's exclusive Chelsea.
