Permit Application Tracker

Permit Applications and Plan Reviews Search

DEQ is pleased to announce the expansion of its Environmental Permit Application Tracking System. The tracker system allows applicants and the public to check the status of pending environmental permit applications or plan approvals. The system is designed to allow interested parties to search by location, permit type, facility name, permit number and other ways a number of milestones in the review process and to track progress from the date of receipt until a final decision is made.

Phase 2 of this system, which went live in early October 2012, includes additional water quality permit applications and Division of Water Resource Public Water Supply plans. An earlier phase of this system includes information on 25 different permits, including Air Quality small, synthetic minor and Title V major permits; Water Quality NPDES Wastewater, State Stormwater, Collection Systems and Gravity Sewer Extensions; and Water Resources capacity use permits.

Our goal is to provide easily accessible, up-to-date information on environmental permits and other requirements. Before expanding this tracking system we are asking our customer to provide feedback on the system's ease of use, relevance of information and suggestions as to which permitting programs should to be included in future system roll-outs.

[1] Forsyth, Mecklenburg, and Buncombe Counties have local air quality programs and permits issued by those programs may not appear in Application Tracker.

[2] Some units of local government are delegated to review and approve water main extensions. Locally reviewed water main extensions are not included in Application Tracker. Public Water System projects are submitted to and reviewed by the Public Water Supply Section. Once the project has been approved and an Authorization to Construct is issued, the applicant can begin construction. Construction can take months or years. Once construction is complete and both required certifications are received a Final Approval is issued and the project can be placed into service.

[3] Water Quality Program data is not updated on a real-time basis; instead, it is updated daily (M-F) and is up-to-date as of the end of the previous business day.

Note: This system is designed to provide the status of applications from the data of receipt to issuance/withdrawal/disapproval. In most cases, applications will be removed from the tracking system 30 days after a final decision has been made. Information will be updated nightly, except on holidays and weekends.
