'Many things that have happened in my lifetime, I never imagined those things would happen. Obviously, God knew and so I'm just very thankful,' he said.
'This is just an amazing moment, I’m going to freeze this moment, and remember it forever.'
Wonder, who has been blind since birth, then used the moment to call for unity in the state which last month voted for a Republican president for the first time in 28 years.
'I’ve never seen none of you, so when I hear things about people not liking people because of the color of their skin, it is so absurd to me, so barbaric to me,' he said according to the Huffington Post.

'We are on a journey. When I think about this street, now being Stevie Wonder Avenue, I want all of us to walk down the street that leads us to a place of humanity and equality, of fairness and respect for each other.'
