The injured and emaciated dog was sleeping on the broken recliner among a pile of garbage in the freezing cold in Detroit, Michigan for more than a week. The dog's family had moved away and failed to take him with them. A heartbreaking photo shows him clinging to the chair and the dumped belongings on the snow-covered street waiting for his family to come back for him. The starving dog was rescued by an animal welfare group. He was found with a broken leg, missing teeth and ribs poking out under his fur.

NEW President Barack Obama (right) and First Lady Michelle Obama (left) used their final Christmas address from the White House on Saturday to acknowledge the sacrifices of American servicemen and women in the armed forces. 'No one better embodies that spirit of service than the men and women who wear our country's uniform and their families,' the president said in the video message that was posted on social media Saturday. The Obamas engaged in witty banter about the first Christmas message they recorded in 2009 (inset), with the first lady teasing her husband about his quirky sense of humor.

Joey Boots (left), 49, was found dead at his Bronx apartment by fellow Howard Stern (bottom right) Wack Packer High Pitch Erik Bealman (top right) on Friday night after the radio show personality failed to show up for a recording of their podcast. Upon finding Boots, Bealman called into the podcast - which was still on air - to tell the men recording that he had some 'bad news' and broke the news of his death. Boots suffered from diabetes, according to Page Six . Police say there were no visible signs of trauma.

Military dad Jacob Ross surprised his daughters Rylinn, five, and Aurora, six, when they were visiting a mall Santa in North Platte, Nebraska last week. Ross, who has been stationed in South Korea for more than seven months, hatched the surprise plan after learning his youngest daughter wanted to ask Santa if he could bring her dad home for Christmas. The touching reunion was captured on camera and showed the girls sitting on Santa's lap. Rylinn asked Santa: 'Can you bring my daddy home?' before Ross appeared from behind the sleigh.

Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd (pictured left in an orange jacket), has rushed to UCLA Medical Center with her star mother's beloved dog (inset at the hospital) where the actress is in a stable condition after suffering a massive heart attack while on board an 11-hour transatlantic flight from London to Los Angeles. Carrie's brother, Todd Fisher, said that the actress, who is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise (pictured right in her famous gold bikini in Return of the Jedi in 1983), was 'out of emergency' and stabilized at UCLA Medical Center Friday afternoon but still being held in intensive care. A harrowing distress call made by the United Airlines Flight 935 pilot on Friday afternoon revealed that Fisher, 60, was kept alive with CPR administered by a fellow passenger after she was reportedly not breathing for 10 minutes or so. Prior to landing at LAX, the pilot of the United flight told the control tower that passengers aboard the plane - including a nurse - were helping an 'unresponsive passenger,' but did not name who it was. Fisher (pictured center in London earlier this month) is currently in the middle of a book tour for her memoirs, the Princess Diarist.

The reddish rock art found in a small cave within the Sahara desert shows a mother and father stood under a newborn, with animals present and a star in the east. It was actually discovered in 2005 by geologist Marco Morelli, director of the Museum of Planetary Sciences in Prato, near Florence, Italy, but he has only just made the images public. He added that when the baby is drawn above the parents, it usually resembles a birth or pregnancy in ancient Egyptian art.

Craig Vandewege told police his house in Fort Worth, Texas, had been burgled when he came home to find his wife Shanna and their newborn son Diederik murdered on December 15. Police later arrested the 36-year-old for speeding through Colorado. He told officers he was on his way to Las Vegas to see Donald Trump to 'work it out' and that he had been framed for the murders. His Costco co-workers have since told how he described dreams in which he decapitated the pair before their killings, telling how he had sliced their heads "like bologna" in the dream.

Reece Modzelewski was taken off life support Friday at 12:03pm by parents Mark Modzelewski, 32, and Nicole Nicastro, 34, of Carteret, New Jersey after his babysitter accidentally dropped him. Family friends said that the prognosis was extremely poor and doctors could 'do nothing' more for him. 'This is the worst day of my life' father Mark wrote on Facebook.

The 125-year-old 'toilet paper debate' has divided people once again, this time during Christmas in at the in-laws house. A New Zealand man was visiting his brother-in-law's house when he was forced to use the 'unusable toilet facilities' (pictured). Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon (left) made a tearful public apology Friday, more than two years after punching a woman and breaking bones in her face. As Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops looked on, Mixon spoke at a news conference Friday afternoon, more than two years after he assaulted Amelia Molitor (inset) and broke her jaw and cheekbone. Mixon said he wanted to address the issue earlier, but his legal team advised him not to. Mixon's legal advisers released video of the punch last week, right, and Mixon said he wishes it had come out sooner. Since the video came out, there has been a backlash against Mixon, Stoops and the university.

Shocking footage has emerged of child monks punching each other in the head a bare-knuckle fight club-style boxing match. A clip shot in the grounds of a temple shows the children in red robes and shaven heads repeatedly hit and kick each other. It is said that the boys were 'training for Buddhist roles'. A monk named Khun Kampon shot the footage in Udon Thani, northern Thailand.

This is the hilarious moment a pack of eight solemn-faced pooches recreated the Nativity scene while wearing kids' Christmas costumes and TEA TOWELS on their heads. The serene biblical scene was recreated by the holiday-loving hounds' owners Sammie McCormick and 32-year-old support worker Cheryl Waddell at their home in the UK. Gold Coast mother Kimberley Welman who rose to fame with the Stay Strong Mummy blog, using photos of her children in her workouts, has said she will no longer using them in her social media posts. Ms Welman has said she will no longer be featuring her children because they're at an age where they know what's going on, and she doesn't think it's natural for kids to have their photos taken all the time. Ms Welman's new book The Stay Strong Mummy Fitness Plan is being released next month.

This is the shocking moment a road rage trucker raced down the wrong side of a busy Thailand road, shunting cars and causing carnage. The driver, described as drugged by eyewitnesses, swerved his white truck across both lanes of the Bangkok road, smashing into cars driving in both directions. Dashcam footage from one caught-up motorist shows the crazed trucker ramming cars in the distance.
