Today Show host Matt Lauer sold his Hamptons cottage for $3.5million after trading up and paying a reported $33million for a sprawling estate previously owned by Richard Gere.
Lauer and his wife Annette listed his stylish three-bedroom waterfront home in Southampton, New York, for $3.95million this summer, along with another 26-acre estate in Sag Harbor for $17.995million.
He decided to trade in both properties, snapping up a 12-bedroom, 6.2 acre home nearby known as Strongheart Manor instead after Gere repeatedly slashed the price down from $65million.

Despite selling the cottage well below his original asking price, Lauer is still making a pretty penny off the $3.5million sale, having paid $2.15million for it in 2009

The Today host and his wife Annette are also hoping to hand over the keys to their more substantial Sag Harbor estate for $17.995million, although they lowered the price by $1million in September, according to Curbed.
That 8,000-square-foot-home comes with a 70-foot pool, pool house, wet bar and tennis court.
There are also multiple terraces, patios and secret gardens on the 25 acre property, which is gated to ensure the privacy of the buyer.

The Lauer family will not be moving very far, with their new home just a few minutes away in North Haven.
Their new 6.2 acre property and 14,000-square-foot manor was previously owned by Gere, who struggled to sell the property and cut the initial $65million asking price down to $36.5million.
Lauer reportedly snapped the home for nearly half the original price at $33million, Curbed reported.
Known as Strongheart Manor, the compound was first built at the start of the twentieth century and features a pool, basketball court, pond with bridge, two guesthouses and a teahouse for entertaining visitors.
There are also 12 bedrooms and bathrooms, a giant screened-in porch that stretches the length of the home and family, living and dining rooms.
The family upgraded their home and purchased the 14,000-square-foot manor of Richard Gere (above) in North Haven, New York
The estate even has its own beach, though it is located on a bay and not the ocean, and a 240-foot-long private deep-water dock.
That dock means that the Lauers can get to their new home by boat should they want to skip the drive, or helicopter ride, out east from New York City.
Lauer, who recently signed a two-year contract with the Today show worth a reported $20million, has two sons, 14-year-old Jack Matthew and nine-year-old Thijs, and an 11-year-old daughter Romy with wife Annette.

The Lauers' Hamptons real estate portfolio also includes Bright Side Farms, a 40-acre retreat and horse farm in Watermill which they opened in 2013 after years of work.
