Vanderpump Rules villain James Kennedy mourns the death of his godfather George Michael as it's claimed 'godchildren will inherit the singer's £100m fortune'

Vanderpump Rules cast member and former SUR DJ James Kennedy took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to his late godfather, megastar George Michael.

The musician - who was found dead at 53 in his bed on Sunday - grew up with Kennedy's father, Andros Georgiou.

The duo, whose fathers grew up together in Cyprus, Greece, were the best of friends until their falling out in the late 1990s.

It was reported on Wednesday by the Daily Mirror that the late singer, who had no children of his own but was godfather to many - including a few celebrity friends' children - left his estimated £100 million fortune to his godchildren.

Ghosts of Christmas past: James Kennedy, 24, took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to his late godfather, megastar George Michael, dead at 53

The 24-year-old reality star posted a childhood photo of himself with George from a past Christmas, posing with a large life-sized stuffed Barney doll.

'Rest In Peace George,' Kennedy captioned the sweet photo.

'I'm heartbroken we never got to speak again after so many years, I can't believe this has happened, please watch over me in heaven Godfather. Enjoy paradise I love you.'

He then shared a photo of his father with 'Yog,' the singer's nickname.

He wrote: 'Dad and Yog... "God takes angels when he needs them". Thank you all for your messages, bless you all. Dad, I'll be with you soon and can't wait I love you.'

Childhood friends: The musician - who was found dead at 53 in his bed on Sunday - grew up with Kennedy's father, Andros Georgiou

James' dad, who George affectionately called 'Rock,' once spoke about his former friendship with the Wham! singer in an interview with The Sun.

'When I married Jackie [James' mom], I told her, "[George] comes first. My kids are his kids and he'll be in the delivery room with us." And he was. When my son James was born in January 1992, Yog and I gave him his first bath, ' said Georgiou, who managed Wham!

Their friendship was a very public topic of debate - fans even created Facebook pages dedicated to getting the friends back together.

Together in spirit: George Michael and Andros Georgiou grew up together, and their friendship was a huge topic of contention

Andros wrote his autobiography based on his friendship with the musical icon, titled Rock: The Luckiest Man in Pop. The book detailed their public falling out.

Before his friend's death, Andros told The Sun that he had written letters to George since they ended their friendship.

In one, the father-of-two wrote: 'The last thing I would ever want is for one of us to be standing over the other's grave, wishing he had mended the nonsense that destroyed us.'

In June 2015, James took to Twitter to attempt to mend his relationship with his godfather, who is also godfather to his brother Harry.

'Happy Birthday Uncle @GeorgeMichael I know it's been a long time, your'e in my prayers. See u soon one day I hope (sic).'

James Kennedy was fired from SUR on the most recent episode of Vanderpump Rules, however, upon Wednesday's report that Michael will leave his fortune to his godchildren, the DJ potentially may never have to work again.

Life changing: Though James was fired from SUR, he may never have to work again if he is included in his late godfather's will

Aside from James, George was godfather to Roman and Harley Moon Kemp, the children of his Wham! bandmate Shirlie Holliman and Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp.

Michael is also expected to leave money to Geri Horner's daughter Bluebell, who was the goddaughter of his ex-boyfriend Kenny Goss, according to The Daily Mirror.

Michael's older sisters, Melanie and Yioda, his boyfriend Fadi Fawaz and his cousin Andros' two children, to whom he is also a godfather, are also expected to be named in his will.

Though it is yet unknown whether James - who hasn't seen his godfather since he was very young - will be included in the will, he is a verified godchild of the late musical legend.

George's large sum of money comes from royalties and paid performances at private parties and events in the decade before his death.

He is understood to own at least four properties, including the Oxfordshire cottage where he died, his mansion in London, and lavish homes in NYC and Sydney.
