'My stomach is lower, my breasts are a different shape... I feel like a stranger in my own body': Plus-size model Tess Holliday candidly details her struggle to accept her postpartum body

  • The 31-year-old welcomed her second child, a son named Bowie, in June
  • This was her first child with her fiancé Nick Holliday; she also has an 11-year-old son
  • Though Tess speaks out often about body-positivity and loving her size, she admitted on Instagram she is struggling with her postpartum body

Plus-size model Tess Holliday is a major advocate for the plus-size community as well as embracing one's body, but even she has her moments of self-doubt and insecurity.

On Friday, the mother-of-two uploaded two selfies in her underwear, sharing an honest message about adjusting to her new figure.

'Each day feels like a battle to learn how to love my body postpartum,' she said. 'It's been 6 months, & my stomach is lower, my breasts are a different shape, new stretch marks & I feel like a stranger in my body more than ever.'

Truth: She also posted an honest message about her struggles to accept her body after having her second baby in June

Though she's long been able to accept herself at any size, she's having a hard time these days.

'I wasn't anticipating this at all,' she explained. 'I'm not used to looking in the mirror & feeling like I don't recognize myself, but sadly that's my reality some days.'

She added that she debated whether or not she should share this post, but she is tired of the pressure put on new moms to 'lose the baby weight'.

'I was fat before, I carried a healthy baby, & guess what, still fat... & THATS OKAY,' she wrote. I have no New Years resolution to lose weight, but only to work on learning my new body & loving & nurturing it.

'Not a day goes by that Nick doesn't tell me how beautiful I am, but it's not our partners job to lift our spirits, we have to be our own cheerleaders. So that's what I will do, take it day by day. It's a journey, not a race.. & a beautiful one at that.'

Pointing it out: Last week, Tess found that the bathrobe at her California hotel didn't live up to the title one-size-fits-all

A good time: Tess revealed that she and her family were staying in a cave-themed room in the run up to the holidays

She certainly seems to have some ups and downs with her body. Last week, she made a joke about her size when a 'one-size-fits-all' bathrobe didn't come even close to fastening around her.

'I'm so glad they had my size,' she wrote sarcastically on a photo of herself in the robe before sharing it on Instagram.

'AMIRITE?!' she added in the image's caption, including the hashtag: #onesizefitshardlyanyone.

Last Tuesday, Tess posted an image of an adorable baby outfit bearing her son Bowie's name. She revealed that the family were staying in a cave-themed room at the Madonna Inn in California for the holidays.

Bonding: Tess' husband Nick shared this photo of himself and the couple's baby son Bowie under the shower

On the same day, Tess' husband Nick shared a sweet snap of himself and Bowie in the shower, writing: 'Cave showers with my favorite cromag.'

The trip is finishing off a busy month for Tess, after she stripped down to her bra and underwear to strut down the runway during her first lingerie show at the beginning of December.

While she is often the picture of confidence, she admitted that she was nervous to flaunt her figure six-months postpartum at the show.

'I've never been the kind of model that gets to be part of runway shows, especially lingerie because of my size and height but I did the damn thing,' she explained.

'My husband was cheering me on in the back and even though I was terrified, damn if it wasn't liberating!' she added.

Feeling liberated: The size 22 model took to Instagram after the show to share a photo of herself along with a candid message about her experience

Stunning look: Tess did a twirl so she could show off her sheer Catherine D'Lish dressing gown

Tess later shared a stunning photo of herself showing off her sheer Catherine D'Lish dressing gown for the audience, explaining that she had participated in Buzzfeed's recreation of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

The runway show  featured women of all shapes, sizes, heights, and ethnicities, and Tess praised the event for its inclusion.

'It's full of diversity, the way VS shows should be,' Tess added.

At the event, Tess told the cameras that she stepped out of her comfort zone when she agreed to walk in the show.

'Today what I hope to gain is a little bit of bravery. I definitely never walked a runway in my underwear ever because no one's given me an opportunity,' she admitted.

'I was definitely really nervous to show my stomach because I don't really ever show this much of my stomach — especially because I have a five-and-a-half-month-old baby,' she said of the moment.

'But I felt like I was in good company and everyone was really supportive, so it was a really good experience.'
