'Unfathomable loss': Carrie Fisher's half-sisters Joely and Tricia express their heartbreak over star's death

Carrie Fisher's half-sisters, Joely and Tricia Fisher, have taken to Twitter with messages of heartbreak following the actress' death.

Joely, 49, who is also an actress, shared a snap of herself and the Star Wars icon embracing, along with a very moving message. 

'Breaking my silence with a broken heart...the Unfathomable loss...the earth is off its axis today...how dare you take her away from us' she wrote on Tuesday.

Tricia, 48, wrote simply 'Heartbroken' alongside a picture of herself with Carrie.

Carrie's father Eddie Fisher, who passed away in 2010, had Joely and Tricia with actress Connie Stevens, his third wife.

Joely followed up with a sweet throwback photo of herself alongside Carrie, her brother Todd and Carrie's mother Debbie Reynolds.

'I am the tallest in this tribe (Connie and Eddie and Tricia not pictured) Still always tallest.' she wrote. 

Carrie is also survived by her daughter Billie Lourd, 24, and mother Debbie, 84, who shared a heartfelt message on Facebook on Tuesday.

'Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother'  

Simon Halls, a spokesperson for the family, released a statement announcing the actress' death on Tuesday morning.

'It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,

Connie's father Eddie Fisher, who passed away in 2010, shared daughters Joely and Tricia with third wife actress Connie Stevens. They are pictured in 1968

'She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.'

Her passing comes four days after the actress suffered cardiac arrest while returning home to Los Angeles from London to celebrate the holidays with her family.

The actress never regained consciousness after being admitted to UCLA Medical center on Friday afternoon.
