GOP Congressman likens Obama to villain in Batman movies and says sanctions are Obama's 'slap back' at Putin for turning him down when he tried to 'sell out the country'

  • Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert described the plot from the first Batman movie in the Dark Knight series, Batman Begins
  •  Liam Neeson's character, Ra's al Ghul, frees a prison of dangerous criminals in a plot to destroy Gotham - that's akin to what Obama's doing, Gohmert said
  • 'He's been told by ISIS, we're going to get terrorists in with the refugees, and he says, "Great, send 'em...we're going to have them all here for Trump'
  • Also claimed that Obama's sanctions on Russia are a 'slap back' at Vladimir Putin for turning down his request for more flexibility in 2012

Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert likened the president to a villain in the Dark Knight trilogy this morning, accusing him of creating chaos in the country to cripple Donald Trump.

Gohmert described the plot from the first Batman movie in the Dark Knight series, Batman Begins, when Liam Neeson's character, Ra's al Ghul, frees a prison of dangerous criminals in a plot to destroy Gotham.

That's akin to what President Obama's doing, Gohmert charged.

'This president, he's been told by ISIS, we're going to get terrorists in with the refugees, and he says, "Great, send 'em, let's bring 'em on, we're going to have them all here for Trump.'

The Republican lawmaker also claimed that Obama's sanctions on Russia are a 'slap back' at Vladimir Putin for turning him down in 2012 when he tried to 'sell out the country.'

Gohmert appeared on Fox & Friends this morning to discuss Obama's new punishing acts against Russia, which include the closure of two Russian-owned compounds and the expulsion of 35 diplomats the U.S. government says are spies.

'If you're really going to punish somebody, what he did really is not a punishment,' Gohmert said.

He recalled a caller saying yesterday on Sean Hannity's radio show, which Gohmert was guest hosting, that the Russians don't have to leave the country within 72 hours like the Obama administration said.

They can 'just choose a sanctuary city and go there,' Gohmert said his caller stated. 'You don't have to leave, just go to a sanctuary city and they'll protect you.'

'We saw these kinds of actions when we were each in middle school,' Gohmert said, referring to the sanctions. 'When somebody got their feelings hurt, what did they do? They tried to slap back.'

Obama says he's retaliating against Putin for hacks on Democrats that hurt his preferred successor, Hillary Clinton, and the harassment of American diplomats in Moscow.

'But if you look at what this president done, 2012...the president said, " Tell Vladimir I'll have a lot more flexibility," ' Gohmert claimed. 'So when he was willing to sell out the country and Vladimir didn't take him up on his offer, then it was a slap back just like in middle school.'

'But if you look at what this president done, 2012...the president said, " Tell Vladimir I'll have a lot more flexibility," ' Gohmert claimed, referring to the conversation depicted here with Dmitry Medvedev

Gohmert was referring to Obama and Dmitry Medvedev's hot mic conversation in March of 2012, when the U.S. president told the outgoing Russian president he needed time to deal with contentious issues, 'particularly with missile defense.'

'I understand your message about space,' Medvedev, who was preparing to hand over power to Putin, said.

Obama, starring down his own reelection at the time, told Medvedev, 'This is my last election ... After my election I have more flexibility.'

'I will transmit this information to Vladimir,' Putin's protegee promised.

The first-term president's secretary of state, Clinton, had infamously presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a 'reset' button three years before.

'We want to reset our relationship, and so we will do it together,' Clinton said, presenting him with a red button that was supposed to translate to 'reset' but instead said 'overcharged.'

Clinton told him, 'We won't let you do that to us, I promise.'

By 2014 Russia had invading Crimea. Russian separatists remain in control of the Ukrainian peninsula to this day.

Gohmert used the sanctuary cities jab on Fox & Friends to segue into an attack on Obama's refugee policy.

He mentioned 'Batman Begins,' and asked his fill-in hosts, which included Fox News' Ed Henry, 'Isn't that the one with Liam Neeson?'

'What do you do if you want to destroy the big city? Well first they let the criminals go. What's the president doing? He's letting as many criminals as he can go. And then you bring in outsiders to help destroy what's left,' Gohmert said.

Henry asked which character the president-elect plays in the fantasy.

'Trump is the guy who comes sweeping in with the medicine that saves the city,' Gohmert said.
