The X Factor's Honey G suffers major setback as her debut single limps into the midweek chart at 149 

She harboured lofty ambitions of chart success after a series of divisive performances on The X Factor were rewarded with a surprise record deal.

But Honey G’s dream of rap stardom have been dealt a premature blow with rush-released debut single The Honey G Show limping to a lowly 149 on the mid-week chart.

The track has struggled to make an impact, despite climbing into the iTunes UK top ten following its release on December 23.

An accompanying promotional video has won just 14,000 likes next to 60,900 Dislikes on VEVO, where it has been viewed more than 1.3 million times. 

The disappointing reception comes shorty after Honey, real name Anna Georgette Gilford, revealed a second single had already been written by producers at record label Syco.   

She told Digital Spy: ‘What I want to do is negotiate a deal. We want to make it happen.

'I don’t think there is a specific timescale – I think they are allowed to make two singles with me, and then if they make a third, they have to make an album.' 

The self-styled rapper, 35, has been forced to defend herself against accusations of cultural appropriation after dividing fans with her take on urban music during a lengthy run on The X Factor. 

‘I don’t want people coming into my space, trying to spread negative energy. This movement is going to put the haters to bed,' she told MailOnline.

‘People saying I’m an actress, that’s ridiculous, I’ve got a degree in music. I’m known to the BBC. My mum is a pianist, she’s also known to the BBC. I’ve grown up with musical instruments, as a young child, singing along to rock and roll blues.

‘I grew up as a young DJ on the music scene, I was clubbing at 14 years old because I was very tall. I picked up street lingo off the underground music scene. I’m about as real as anyone can get, so for people to say stuff like that, it’s ridiculous.’
