Ronda Rousey urged to retire by her own mother after crushing defeat by Amanda Nunes at UFC 207

Ronda Rousey has been urged to retire by her own mother, following her brutal defeat by Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Friday night.

Rousey was blown away after just 48-seconds in Las Vegas as she failed to defend herself against a Nunes onslaught, on what was her first appearance in the octagon in over a year following a shock defeat by Holly Holm in November 2015.

The brutal nature of the loss immediately cast major doubts over Rousey's future in the sport she had previously dominated, but her mother, AnnMaria De Mars is in no doubt about what her daughters next move should be.

The loss has cast doubt over Rousey's future in UFC with her mum calling on her to retire

'I think she's sad and disappointed like anybody would be in the circumstances,' she told TMZ Sports.

'I think making snap decisions like that is probably not the best idea, so I don't know, but I would like to see her retire.

'I would like to have seen her retire a long time ago. Who wants to see their kid get hit? She's got a lot of talent in a lot of other things. She could do movies, writing, producing. She's really really smart and beautiful.

'I told her that at the very beginning when she started this, I said you're smart and beautiful, let the stupid people get punched in the face.

Rousey might find it difficult to retire after such a low, given her incredible legacy in UFC

Rousey could star in more films if she leaves UFC, while a switch to the WWE is an option

'She's an adult and can make her own decisions, but they are best made when you are not emotional.'

Nunes also believes her opponent should call it a day, with the Brazilian taking a swipe at 'actress' Rousey following her appearances in films such as The Expendables 3 and Furious 7.

'I am dedicated fighter and I had my team behind me,' exclaimed Nunes during the post-fight press conference.

'All those guys have made me an amazing fighter and brought me onto another level.

Nunes believes Rousey's time in the sport is over and took a swipe at her after the fight

'This is my moment. She had her time, she done her actress parts - thank you Ronda Rousey but right now I am the champion. I prepared my mind, body and spirit.

'I know they love Rousey but I was ready for this fight. I trained for this girl since my first fight in UFC. I am the best on the planet.'

Rousey netted more than £2.5million for her 48 seconds of work, having also shunned almost all of the traditional pre-fight media dutires, while Nunes netted just £160,000 for retaining her bantamweight title
