From nip slips to Marilyn Monroe moments, 2016 was full of scandalous wardrobe malfunctions, both on and off the red carpet.

Chrissy Teigen, 31, Mariah Carey, 46, and Bella Hadid, 20, are just a few of the stars who have suffered fashion-related mishaps in the past 12 months.

Here, FEMAIL rounds up the year's biggest clothing disasters and shares top tips from style expert Lindsay Albanese on how you can avoid them in 2017.

Skin-baring designs: Chrissy Teigen, 31, (left) and Stella Maxwell, 26, (right) were just a few of the stars who had wardrobe malfunctions this year

Fashion-related mishap: Lorde's Valentino gown at this year's Met Gala showed off more than she hoped

As a celebrity stylist, who has worked with stars like Shay Mitchell, Sarah Hyland and Emily Deschanel, Lindsay knows a thing or two about avoiding wardrobe malfunctions.

Her number one piece of advice? Take a photo!

'I do this with celeb clients all the time in fittings,' she said. 'When I'm not sure if an outfit is flattering or even if I like it, I take a selfie in a full-length mirror. This gives you a different perspective and will help you decide.'

'I also always do a "last look" before I leave the house - especially to make sure there are no tags left on my garments or stickers on the bottom of new shoes!'

See-through fashions: Khloe Kardashian, 32, (left) rocked leggings that completely showed her pert posterior, while Halsey, 22, (right) donned a jumpsuit that showed her breasts at this year's VMAs

Oops! Alessandra Ambrosio, 35, had an awkward moment when her breast was exposed during a photo-shoot earlier this year

Thigh's the limit: Bella Hadid, 20, (left) and Joanna Krupa, 37, (right) both showed off more than they wanted to when they hit red carpets in gowns with sky-high slits

Breast petals, dryer sheets and clear nail polish are just a few of the items Lindsay keeps on hand to fix any fashion-related emergencies.

'For static cling, nothing works as well as a fabric-softener sheet. I rub it along the inside of the garment, even up and down my tights to avoid cling. I also always have medical tape available. It works wonders as a makeshift bra for plunge neck or backless tops and dresses and the adhesive holds without hurting your skin.'

To keep camel toe at bay, Lindsay suggests layering a pair of Spanx thigh-shaping shorts underneath your pants. 'We all know that camel toe happens when pants are too tight in that area, so if shapewear doesn't do the trick, it's clear you need to go up to a larger size.'

Whoops! Paris Hilton, 35, accidentally flashed her underwear whilst out in Milan earlier this year

The elusive chanteuse: Mariah Carey, 46, had an embarrassing fashion moment when she tumbled out of her Christian Louboutin heels

Barely-there tops: Jennifer Lawrence, 26, (left) and Kendall Jenner, 21, (right) both donned tight black T-shirts that ended up being completely sheer

Avoid nip slips and high beams alike, by sporting 'breast petals' when wearing plunging necklines or clingy fabrics, Lindsay said.

If you are worried about an up flip 'Marilyn moment' with your skirt or dress, 'wear briefs or boy shorts.' A seamless nude pair will give you the coverage you need while keeping you free of visible panty lines.

When it comes to tights, Lindsay prefers brands like Hanes, that have run-resistant technology, but if you are already have a pair with a small hole in them, 'clear nail polish will always stop them from running further.'

Court-side miss: Adriana Lima, 35, sat court-side at a Brooklyn Nets game when she noticed she had a large run in her stockings

Sheer paneling mishap: Kris Jenner, 61, suffered a mild wardrobe malfunction as the panels of her dress showed off more than she realized
