Her particular brand of saccharine pop has turned her into one of the world's most famous faces.

And canny Katy Perry kept it covered by a surgical mask as she saw in the New Year with her lover Orlando Bloom in Tokyo on Saturday.

The famous couple appeared to go totally unnoticed as they mingled with the proles in the Japanese capital, though they got some odd stares from fellow revellers as they shot footage of them for the brief Instagram video.

The dynamic duo each hoot 'Happy New Year,' several times in the brief clip.

Katy, 32, also typed out a message, saying, 'Lost in Tokyo. Counted down with strangers on a sidewalk... all is as it should be.'

She signed off by saying, 'To a better New Year,' perhaps a nod to the fact her candidate Hillary Clinton, who she promoted and performed for, somehow lost to rank outsider Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

While Katy opted for a facial mask, her Calcium Kid star other half tried to fly under the radar by wearing a trendy trilby hat.

Tuneless warbler Katy has been keeping her fans up to date with her festive arrangements on social media, where she underlined there are few gags more treasured than the classic cream pie in the face.

The Teenage Dream favourite ended up covered in the white stuff after losing out while playing a party game with her sister on Sunday.

Her sibling Angela guffawed with glee when she managed to overcome her famous relative in a game of button bashing, which ended with a generous dollop full of whipped cream being launched towards her face.

And when the toy failed to deliver its payload she took matters into her own hands, then giving her sibling a messy facial.

In her Instagram posting Katy explained what her festive get together was like, saying: 'When my whole fam tryna have a peaceful holiday... hehehe.'

But while she lost out fair and square, the California Gurls star proved to be a bad sport, getting a dollop of her own and splatting it over her sister.
