It has been reported Carrie's daughter, actress Billie Lourd, is now taking care of Gary.

The photo was of Carrie's makeshift star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, which fans created after her passing. Roses and a lightsaber have been laid next to the star which reads, 'May the force be with you always. Hope.'

The Instagram account is filled with photos of the dog alongside Carrie as she plugged her book The Princess Diarist and traveled.

Carrie acquired Gary as a therapy dog to help her with her bipolar disorder.

'Mommy is gone. I love you': Hearts broke when this image of Gary was shared after the Star Wars icon had a heart attack then died

Gary's social media presence made international news on Wednesday when his account shared a snapshot of himself looking out of a window, seemingly waiting for the star's return after she was hospitalised after suffering an apparent heart attack on a flight from London Heathrow to LAX on Christmas Eve.

Gary accompanied Carrie on the flight.

'I'll be waiting right here mommy,' #CarrieFisher @carrieffisher #princessleia,' the post read. It was then retweeted after news of her death broke with the caption: 'I'll still be waiting for you.'

The French bulldog became so synonymous with the actress that he acquired his own Twitter and Instagram accounts, although it is unclear who runs them.

A bond: She had said many times Gary helped her with her mental state. 'Gary is mental also,' she once told The Herald Tribune . 'My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart.' Pictured in July

Poignant: Another post from 'Gary' included a montage of himself and Carrie at public events

'Gary' also posted a montage of photos showing himself with the star, alongside the caption: 'I was always by your side but best of all you were always by mine. #RIPCarrie.'

She had said many times Gary helped her with her mental state.

'Gary is mental also,' she once told The Herald Tribune. 'My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart. Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down. He’s anxious when he’s away from me.'

TMZ reports that it was Carrie's wish that Billie take care of her pet, should anything happen to her.

However, Billie wants to ensure Gary gets along with her own French bulldog Tina and that she's 'able to handle the added responsibility.'

Whatever happens, the dog will remain in the family, report the website.
