  • In a recently resurfaced interview with Teen Vogue, Billie revealed that her mother raised her with a progressive view of gender
  • She also claimed that this stance was the reason her mother named her Billie

Billie Lourd revealed that her mother raised her 'without gender' in a touching interview from earlier this year that has since resurfaced.

Following her tragic death at the age of 60, Carrie Fisher's legacy has been firmly in the spotlight this week.

But while there is a career captured on film that fans will no doubt return to again and again for the rest of their lives, the embodiment of the screen legend's legacy is with her daughter, 24-year-old Billie.

Close bond: In an interview given in September, just a few months before her mother Carrie Fisher's death, Billie Lourd revealed that her mother raised her 'without gender'

Good points: Billie described in the interview that Carrie 'raised me to not think of men and women as different'

Carrie was a well-known feminist advocate throughout her life and it was a part of her life that she has passed on to her daughter, as Billie herself revealed in an interview earlier this year - with words that have become particularly poignant following her mother's death.

Speaking with Ryan Murphy in Teen Vogue in September, Scream Queens star Billie discussed the role of women in Hollywood and revealed a particular part of her upbringing that she believes helped shape her career.

She said that her mother gave her sage wisdom such as telling her 'to be true, and kind, and confident in yourself,' but also raised her with a progressive perspective.

'She raised me to not think of men and women as different. She raised me without gender. It's kind of the reason she named me Billie,' she said.

'It's not about being a strong woman,' she added. 'It's about being a strong person. She once told me: "I never sat you down with a credo. It was more about leading by example."'

The words have gained attention after Carrie died on December 27 aged 60 following a heart attack suffered on an airplane flying from London to Los Angeles four days earlier.

Billie was dealt another blow when her grandmother, Carrie's mother actress Debbie Reynolds, died the following day of a stroke at the age of 84.

Troubled times: Carrie passed away on December 27 after suffering a heart attach on a flight from London to Los Angeles, while her mother Debbie died the following day of a stroke

Family business: Billie has proved herself to be a force on screen as well with her role as Chanel #3 in Scream Queens

As Carrie's only child and Debbie's only grandchild, Billie inherits a legacy of fame and fortune that she was warned off of by both women.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in August, she reveals that her mother and grandmother told her: 'The last thing you want to be is an actress.'

'They wanted me to be a doctor, a C.E.O., a trashman,' she told the publication. 'Basically anything but an actress.'

But despite their warnings, Billie ended up going into the family business, starring in Scream Queens as Chanel #3.
