Reigning Miss Lebanon Emigrant Australia Najah Ghamrawi (left winning her crown), 18, will be stripped of her title after cash and 22 grams of meth was allegedly found in a car she led police on a chase with through Western Sydney. The beauty queen (right and inset) was fined more than $1,350 at Bankstown police station at 11.45pm that night for driving while not wearing a seat belt and not displaying P-plates, but was not charged with any drug offences. Her 20-year-old male passenger was charged with supplying drugs and dealing with the proceeds of crime. Pageant organisers are 'bitterly disappointed' and will remove her title as soon as they can speak with her.

Mariah Carey proved that she was just like millions of other Americans the week before her epic New Year's Eve meltdown in Times Square as she was photographed doing some last minute shopping just before Christmas. It was not presents for her two young children Mariah seemed to be after however, with the 47-year-old pop star and her entourage spotted heading into a marijuana dispensary in the Colorado resort town of Aspen called The Original Leaf. Mariah, who wore a green ballgown and sunglasses for the evening outing, smiled at photographers while walking in and out of the store. The horror spate of drownings across New South Wales during the holiday season is showing no signs of slowing down, with the death toll now standing at 18. An 83-year-old man is the latest person to die, after he was found in a swimming pool on Sydney's northern beaches at around 10pm on Monday. A man was arrested on Sunday after an alleged 'misogynistic rant' onboard a New Year's Day United Airlines flight bound for San Francisco from Sydney (pictured), which led to it being diverted to Auckland instead. New Zealand police said the 42-year-old foreign national was arrested on arrival before being referred to immigration. 'I'm not yelling at you - but do you want me to f****** yell?' the man says in a video filmed by one of the passengers during the flight.

Shocking footage has emerged of riots on the streets of Adelaide on New Year's Eve, where drunken antics boiled over into vandalism and brawls. A total of 140 people were arrested in just 14 hours as people got into fights, screamed abuse at police and even jumped on top of a patrol car. Revellers chanted 'f*** the police, f*** the police' as mounted officers tried to drive them out of Bank Street at 3am on New Year's Day.

It was a time when spiritualism was hugely popular and there was a mystique surrounding photography's process. And British photographer William Hope made the most of a 1920s society that yearned to learn more about the paranormal to produce this striking set of 'spirit photographs' which had the world captivated at the time. Mr Hope - who was part of the infamous Crewe Circle, a spiritualist photography group in the Staffordshire town - was supported by many of his contemporaries including Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. But his work was later discredited after investigators discovered that he had used a photographic process called double exposure, where a single image is created by exposing the film several times.

Chris Murphy, 30, from Skelmersdale, Lancashire, noticed that a woman's knees bore an uncanny resemblance to the royal while travelling through Hindley, Greater Manchester on the way to a match. A ghost like figure has been captured by CCTV cameras creeping up behind two people as they walked home. The footage shows a seemingly floating white spectre gliding closely behind the pair as they walked along their drive way. The family say they set up the security cameras as they felt a 'demonic or ghostly' presence in their lives and wanted to see if they were in fact being haunted.  And now they say the video is proof of their claims.
