'Everyone knows I've had struggles!' Oprah talks about losing 42lbs and finally getting her weight under control as she promotes her cookbook

It is no secret that Oprah Winfrey's weight has yo-yoed wildly over the years.

But the chat show host-turned-cable network founder revealed she's finally at peace with her body when she appeared on CBS's This Morning in New York on Tuesday.

The celebrity, who turns 63 on January 29, was on the show to talk about her first cookbook Food, Health, and Happiness: 115 On-Point Recipes For Great Meals And A Better Life.

Oprah showed off her trim figure in a stylish gray jacket worn over a black cap-sleeved vest, a white shirt, black trousers and leather ankle boots as she headed inside the studio early on Tuesday morning.

And she admitted to co-hosts Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King that her cookbook wouldn't even exist without her commitment to Weight Watchers.

Oprah proudly revealed that she has lost 42.5lbs since joining the group in 2015, when she also bought a 10 percent stake in the company and joined the board.

She also admitted that Weight Watchers contacted her when she was at her heaviest after an ankle injury in Mauai prevented her from exercising.

'They called me, which I think is a funny point that they see me and they're saying, "You need help girl!" ' And the co-hosts laughed as she joked, 'I must be worse than I think!'

Gayle quoted Oprah from her book: 'You say this: "It's not about dieting, deprivation and guilting yourself." '

The star replied: 'Well. yes, Everyone knows I've had some struggles, more than yo-yoing, just struggles with food. At one point I had a big thyroid issue and fixed that. My struggle is trying to find the balance, I've tried every diet.'

And she added that her friends are amazed at the calorific things she still eats.

'They say, "I thought you were on Weight Watchers, you're eating this? You're eating truffle fries? Why are you serving tacos?" Because you can eat whatever you want,' Oprah said explaining the points system.

'What I've learned is ....Weight Watchers isn't a diet, it's a support system ... so I know I'll be doing it for the rest of my life. I feel healthier, more alive and more connected then I've ever been.'

And when Charlie said he'd like to lose 15 to 20lbs, Oprah reached into her bag and said, 'I have a sign-up card for you.'

She also talked briefly about her final interview with outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama for a recent CBS special, saying: 'She felt more willing to speak her true mind.'

As for Michelle's life post the White House? 'I think she will be speaking around the world. - she has a passion for girls' referring to the causes for young women and children that President Obama's wife has espoused during his eight years in office.
