City Council to review City Centre night time economy
Stoke-on-Trent City Council Leader Mohammed Pervez has asked for a task and finish group to be set up which will tasked with carrying out what is being call a comprehensive review of the city centre’s night-time economy.
The task and finish group will be made up of a number of city councillors who will work with businesses, visitors and licensees. They will collect information on the current night time economy of the city centre and make recommendations for future improvement. Continue reading
Stoke-on-Trent City Council awarded £50,000 by Technology Strategy Board
Stoke-on-Trent City Council have been awarded £50,000 by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills sponsored Technology Strategy Board.
The award is for the council to carry out a feasibility study showing how they could integrate their transport, communications and other infrastructure to improve the local economy, increase quality of life and reduce impact on the environment. Continue reading
BCRS provides first loan to Stoke-on-Trent business
The recently launched business loan service set up in Stoke-on-Trent has provided its first loan to a business in the city.
The business loan service was set up by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Black Country Reinvestment Society (BCRS) in June with an initial loan fund of £200,000 to provide loans of between £10,000 and £50,000 to Stoke-on-Trent businesses who are having problems getting the funding they need from traditional sources. A press release from Stoke-on-Trent City Council this morning says that the Cabinet have agreed to plans to negotiate the sale of the Slater Street site to Sanctuary Group and developer ID4Living, part of the Seddon Group for a mixed-tenure development.

City Council announce plan to become self-sufficient in low carbon energy
As reported on Pits n Pots 2 weeks ago, Stoke-on-Trent a city self sufficient in low carbon energy?, Stoke-on-Trent City Council yesterday announced that they are one of just six authorities nationwide to make it to the second stage of the ‘Creative Councils’ programme, securing £150,000. The funding will help the council create a trail-blazing local authority power company which will help the city become self-sufficient in low carbon energy – a first under the 2011 Localism Act. 1369 respond to Stoke-on-Trent school terms consultation
Stoke-on-Trent school terms are set to remain the same after a 14 week consultation with parents, teaching and support staff, pupils, school governors, trade unions and other groups which got 1,369 responses.
The council’s cabinet will decide next week on the pattern for Stoke-on-Trent school terms for the next academic year 2013-14 and beyond, the recommendation put to the cabinet will be to stay with the traditional three-term system, with breaks for Easter and Christmas, and a six-week summer holiday. Eye Spy the By-election
So the by-election has finally been called for the vacancy for Office of Councillor for the Springfields and Trent Vale ward, it’s only taken since 27 April. So now the ballot boxes are being broken out and just in the nick of time… frustrated residents in Springfields & Trent Vale are already starting to petition the council over local issues, having begun to feel the effects of no local representation for the last few months.
Despite having more councillors than they know what to do with, Labour have not fallen over themselves to ensure residents have felt looked after, which is perhaps why there are rumblings that this by-election may see upwards of 8 candidates all vying to fix the numerous potholes and clear the litter on the yellow brick road from Trent Vale to Stoke. Hardly a ringing endorsement of previous incumbents…
