Computational Genomics Conference To Attract Leading Scientists

Rockville, MD — Comparative genomics, sequence assembly, gene expression analysis and genome annotation are among the hot topics to be discussed at the 7th annual Conference on Computational Genomics.

The meeting, to be held on October 21-24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, VA, is jointly sponsored by The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) and The Jackson Laboratory.

The annual conference brings together some of the nation's leading practitioners of computational genomics, which involves the interaction between the fields of computer science and molecular biology in support of genomics.

Keynote speaker David Botstein of Princeton University will give a presentation, "Of Genes and Genomes," on October 21. Other speakers will discuss topics such as microbial genome annotation, comparative analysis of metabolism, the assembly of the dog genome, and the role of data mining in pharmacogenomics.

The co-chairpersons of the conference are Steven Salzberg of TIGR and Carol Bult and Janan Eppig from The Jackson Laboratory. Sources of funding for the meeting include the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health.
