He's the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter with an impressive 7.4 million Instagram followers.

But despite his success, Sam Smith managed to fly relatively under the radar as he celebrated the New Year in Sydney.

Photos of the 24-year-old surfaced on fans' Instagram accounts from last Thursday as he partied at various night spots.

On Tuesday, fan Shazy Sarthak posed for a photo with Sam, as he enjoyed a night at a popular nightclub on Oxford Street.

Another image that appeared to have been taken on the same night saw Sam happily posing with female fan, Eliza Tickle.

'2017 is shaping up to be a good year,' the blonde captioned the photo.

Good times! The Money on My Mind hitmaker certainly seems to be enjoying his visit to Sydney

It seems Sam celebrated the New Year at Sydney Opera House, having landed earlier that day after a flight from London via Dubai.

A pretty flight attendant, Lynsey Leigh Logan, also posed for an Instagram photo with the Money on My Mind hitmaker.

'Had the pleasure of meeting this guy 35000 feet above the ground,' she wrote.

Sam was later snapped just before the midnight fireworks on New Year's Day outside Bennelong restaurant at the Opera House.

It's unknown if Sam is visiting Australia for a holiday or if he is recording new music. Daily Mail Australia has reached out for comment.

The pictures however draw attention to his remarkable weight loss since 2015.

Sam revealed at the Grammy Awards in February last year: 'I've just not eaten like a pig anymore – that's what I'm doing, basically.

'It's very very difficult. I love food so much so it's a constant battle. It's always going to be a battle but I'm trying my best.'

Sam has not said publicly how much weight he has lost, but he did admit to dropping 6.3kgs in just 14 days back in April 2015.
