Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone gave very emotional speeches as they lead La La Land to a very impressive seven award sweep at the Golden Globes. They each accepted the Best Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy gongs as the musical as a whole took the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy gong at the event held at iconic The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.. The impressive mark is also historic as it is the most ever won by a film beating out a five-way tie of five with classics including: Doctor Zhivago (1965), Love Story (1970), The Godfather (1972), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), and A Star is Born (1976).

Meryl Streep, the Cecil B. DeMille honoree, used her Golden Globes acceptance speech on Sunday night to publicly slam Donald Trump for mocking a disabled reporter. She called the president-elect's moment the most stunning performance of the year. 'There was nothing good about it, but it did its job,' Streep said. The Hollywood A-lister said Trump's public humiliation filtered down to everyone's life and gave others permission to do that same. Streep, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention, called for the press to stand up to Trump going forward. She concluded her speech by quoting Carrie Fisher: 'Take your broken heart, make it into art.'

Ryan Seacrest appeared to snub Australian star Keith Urban in a very awkward exchange at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. As Keith arrived at the event with wife Nicole Kidman, the TV and radio personality made it clear he wanted to interview Nicole first.  'I'm going to get to you in a second,' the popular host said to Keith.

But the stars of Hollywood made no concession to the stormy weather, as they strutted their stuff in a dazzling array of bright colourful gowns at the Golden Globes on Sunday. A young boy from Christchurch in New Zealand is recovering after having a life-saving liver transplant. Byson Bennett, 4, was bright yellow from jaundice before his mother Jasmine was given the call to say there was a liver waiting for him in Auckland.

Jess Lee Donker (right), 29, a mother-of-two who has been charged with murdering her partner Richie Powell (pictured with Donker left), 32, after allegedly mowing him down with her car in Melbourne (inset), is bipolar. A lawyer for Ms Donker, who appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday with a bruise on her eye, told the court the 29-year-old had never been arrested before and detailed her mental health. Ms Donker has been charged with the murder of Mr Powell after she allegedly struck and killed him in a suspected domestic dispute in Sunbury, in north-west Melbourne, around 6am on Sunday.

This is the moment a diver off the coast of Queensland was almost savaged by a bull shark after the predator charged at him and forced him to jam a spear gun into its mouth. Terrifying video shows the diver rotating in the water before the shark emerges from the sea bed and swims toward him at speed. The creature then opens its mouth for a bite, but ends up chewing on a spear gun instead.

Australian-born Crown Princess Mary's twins - Vincent and Josephine - have celebrated their sixth birthday. To celebrate, the Royal family released new black-and-white portraits of the pair (left), and with their blonde hair and blue eyes, there is no mistaking their likeness. The twins were born to Mary and her husband Prince Frederik on January 8, 2011. They were pictured on board The Royal Yacht at seven months old (top right), before travelling to Australia at 10 months. Today the twins are known for stealing with spotlight, with a cheeky Josephine often pulling faces or dancing for the camera while a more bashful Vincent watches on (bottom right).

Tao Porchon-Lynch (pictured), 98, is the world's oldest yoga instructor. Now, the spirited yogi, who was raised in India and lives in New York, has shared her advice and the mantras she swears by in life. 'When you wake up every morning say "this is going to be the best day of my life" and it will be,' Mrs Porchon-Lynch says. Yoga isn't the only craft Mrs Porchon-Lynch has mastered however, with the yogi also talented at ballroom dancing. She was also a fashion model in her youth and acted in movies including 1951's Show Boat and 1954 film The Last Time I saw Paris, starring Elizabeth Taylor.

A horrifying video has emerged of a young woman being punched repeatedly by another woman as she pins her to the ground and drags her along a Melbourne road by her hair. The video, which was posted to a Facebook group on January 7, shows a young woman wearing black trying to cover her face as the other woman, wearing a grey shirt and light pants, holds her to the ground with one hand clutching her hair. The second woman punches the victim 12 times in the head as she struggles to move or defend herself. A male passerby eventually intervenes and pulls the woman off of the victim.

The older sister of a young boy who committed suicide after relentless attacks from his school classmates is taking a stand, determined to stop bullying costing lives. Kodi Pearson (right and inset), 14, took his own life in mid-2016 following sustained personal and online attacks from students at St Thomas Moore College in Sunnybank, Brisbane. Devastated at the loss of her beloved younger brother, Kodi's older sister Tayla (pictured) is making it her personal mission to step up the fight. The 17-year-old model is working with schools across Queensland, hoping the voice of someone not much older than those she's speaking to will help the message sink in.

A body has been found during a desperate search for a 25-year-old man who was swept away by a strong current in crocodile infested waters. John Young (pictured, main), from Kununurra, went for an early swim with a friend after a night out at 4.45am on Sunday and did not surface after being sucked underwater at Ivanhoe Crossing (inset). His friend raised the alarm at 5am and police have been searching the river banks armed with rifles for more than 30 hours. Just after 1pm on Monday, police revealed they had found the body of a deceased male about 5 kilometres from where Mr Young vanished.

Jacob Sullivan was charged with the kidnapping, rape and murder of Grace Packer on Sunday morning. A few hours later, Sara Packer was charged with homicide and 'related offenses.' Grace was reportedly raped by Sullivan while her mother looked on for sexual enjoyment.Grace was then killed and four months later, her corpse was taken from an attic and dismembered.

You might not have heard of American model Antje Utgaard (pictured) but the blonde bombshell has been dubbed the 'next next Kate Upton' by Playboy and a 'gift from the Instagram gods' by Maxim. The 22-year-old, social media star who is currently holidaying in Sydney, revealed she was flattered by the comparison but hopes to pursue an acting career. Ms Utgaard has moved to Hollywood to make it happen.

The moment a Queensland police officer did a U-turn at a red light to chase down the driver of a utility who did the same turn on a yellow light has been the centre of a heated debate online. The video was taken in Indooroopilly in Brisbane's south west and has sparked a fierce debate online about who was in the wrong.

Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the Palestinian attacker who mowed down and killed four Israeli soldiers and wounded 15 in Jerusalem was an ISIS terrorist. Speaking at the scene of the attack, Mr Netanyahu said the attacker has been identified and 'according to all the signs he was a supporter of the Islamic State.' He says there "definitely could be a connection" between Sunday's attack, which killed four Israeli soldiers, and recent attacks in France and Germany. The Israeli soldiers were on a sightseeing tour of Jerusalem when they were mowed down and the shocking moment was caught on camera. The killer, who is from the east of the city, swerved to drive over the young soldiers, before reversing to make sure they were dead, trapping ten people under the truck. The surviving soldiers riddled the cab, firing at least 18 rounds at the terrorist, who was killed.

The Holden driver can be seen headbutting his opponent twice in the face, virtually knocking him unconscious, before dragging him to the kerb and stomping on his face. It is not clear how the argument started, or how badly injured either of the drivers were.

Phillip Haumesser, a father from Missouri, has captured the attention of thousands after sharing the incredible portraits he has taken of his young sons. And while his photographs are worthy of a gallery, many are surprised to find out that Mr Haumesser is a self-taught photographer and only started learning in late 2015 by watching YouTube videos. 'It became an obsession. I didn't feel like I was progressing or getting any better at it until I made a compression of my work from when I first started six months before to where I was at the time and I was shocked,' he said.

A mother has pleaded with youngsters to avoid taking Ecstasy - after posting pictures of her teenage daughter in a coma after she popped a pill. In posts that have now got viral, devastated mum Kerry Robinson took to social media site Facebook to explicitly reveal the shocking dangers of taking the banned class-A drug. And she added to her warning by showing her own 16 year-old daughter Leah in a hospital coma after taking Ecstasy over Christmas. Mrs Robinson, of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, explained how her family's own scare with Ecstasy came after Leah took what was believed to be the drug at a local party. The first harrowing picture on Boxing Day showed Leah among a tangle of tubes and machines as she lay unconscious in an induced coma in hospital.

A Gold Coast fisherman made friends with a bull shark after reeling it in during an hour-long struggle. The 1.5m shark was caught on Burleigh Lake on Saturday afternoon. 'It was a nice fish - about as heavy as a few bags of cement - I dunno 60kg or so,' the fisherman, Heath 'Simmo' Simmons, told the Courier-Mail.

Across the world thousands of commuters rode transit systems in just their underwear for the 16th anniversary of the No Pants Subway Ride. The freezing temperatures and snowy weather did not hinder New York and Boston riders from stripping down to their under garments. Dozens of cities participated, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, as well as London and Paris. Participants are told to get on trains and act as they normally would and are given an assigned point to take off their pants. They're asked to keep a straight face and respond matter-of-factly to anyone who asks them if they're cold.

A man who was born female has become the first in Britain to get pregnant. Former Asda worker Hayden Cross, 20, from Gloucester, decided to pause his gender reassignment process so he could give birth. Hayden (pictured left and right as a man in recent years) found a sperm donor on Facebook (inset) and become pregnant four months ago. He will complete his transition, which will remove his breasts and ovaries, after his child is born.

But a group of Brits went as far as recreating these battles by charging around the drug lord's bombed-out Colombian estates with paintball guns. Not even sharks are safe from shark attacks.  Footage posted by a sport fishing company in Exmouth, WA shows a large hammerhead shark chomping on a whaler shark.  The hammerhead is seen repeatedly striking the whaler, which has swallowed the fisherman's bait, and the bigger fish eventually eats half of the smaller one. 'Mother nature takes no prisoners,' said Wes Jones of Peak Sportfishing. 'It was in Exmouth, in the gulf, and we were shark fishing when the hammerhead just came up,' Mr Jones told Daily Mail Australia

Thousands of singing and dancing devils took taken over a mountain town in Ecuador for six days of revelry in the streets. The procession of dancers in elaborate devil masks is the centerpiece of an annual festival in the town of Pillaro in the Ecuadorean Andes. This year, about 3,000 devils took over the center of the town for the first week of January dancing without pause for at least five hours a day.
