NEW Researchers at the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil found the spider eating the snake in Serra do Caverá in southern Brazil. Grammostola tarantulas have previously been induced to eat snakes in captivity. But this is the first time the shocking scene has been captured in the wild.

A massive chunk of Hawaii has disappeared into the ocean: Incredible footage show huge lava collapse that almost killed five tourists
NEW Twenty-six acres of the island, which is a delta formed by the flow of lava from an active volcano, fell into the ocean. The enormous collapse created colossal waves that eroded and washed away older parts of the sea cliff, and sent plumes of rock and steam into the sky. The incredible event took place at the Kamokuna ocean entry on New Year's Eve, and resulted in the closure of the entry to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Is this the 'curse of the Monkey God?' American author finds lost city deep in a Honduran rainforest - only to get mystery life-threatening illness that could have made his FACE fall off
Curses might not be a concern for scientists, but when you're exploring the rainforest ruins of a fabled city whose citizens fled because the 'gods' had cursed them with agonizing diseases it pays to be wary. That's what a team of intrepid souls (including author Douglas Preston, top-left inset, and explorer Steve Elkins, pictured with a carving top-right on an earlier search for the city in 1994) and archaeologists discovered when they set off into the 20,000-mile-deep rainforests (pictured left, main) of Honduras and Nicaragua in search of the fabled 'Lost City of the Monkey God'. The expedition fought off venom-spitting snakes and crawled through dense woodland to find the city, which they realized they'd found when they discovered a carving of a jaguar's head (bottom-right). But the jungle had the last laugh, as they were forced to fight off a grisly, life-threatening illness caused by a sand fly bite.

Where in the galaxy is Voyager? Hubble reveals new 'interstellar road map' of probe's journey through the unexplored territory beyond our solar system
NASA's Hubble space telescope has revealed a new map of the Voyager 1 and 2 probes which have reached unexplored territory. The probes, which were launched in 1977 to explore the outer solar system, have passed all the planets in our solar system and will be active for another ten years until they run out of power. The map revealed that the Voyager 1 is 13 billion miles from Earth, making it the farthest human-made object ever built, and the Hubble telescope is providing the road map by measuring the material along the probes' future trajectories.
The mysterious 'shadow planet' of Hydra: Hubble spots 'twisted disc' that astronomers say could be hiding a young star system
A possible planet in a nearby stellar system may be betraying its presence in a unique way - a shadow. NASA revealed the shadow is sweeping across the face of a vast pancake-shaped gas-and-dust disk surrounding a young star.
Super graphene! MIT reveals revolutionary ultralight material that's TEN TIMES stronger than steel
A team of researchers at MIT have designed one of the lightest and strongest materials ever using graphene. They made it by compressing and fusing flakes of graphene, a two-dimensional form of carbon. The new material has just five per cent density and ten times the strength of steel, making it useful for applications where lightweight, strong materials are required.
Proof of aliens or just a smooth rock? UFO hunters claim to have found a MARBLE on Mars, in latest bizarre claim
Captured by the Mars Rover Curiosity, the most recent image taken on 1 January (pictured) shows a small dark sphere looking out of place lying among the familiar red dust and craggy rocks. Inset is a close-up of the object, which is most likely to be an example of a Martian spherule. These spheres may have formed when molten rock was sprayed into the air by a volcano or a meteor impact.
Confused Apple customers are finding COINS in their MacBooks - and no one knows why
Apple customers across the world have reported incidents of finding coins inside their MacBooks (a variety pictured), and nobody is sure exactly why this is happening. Some have suggested the money has fallen inside the laptops. While others have blamed a conspiracy started by the California-based company or, an even more extreme theory, witchcraft.
The real Death Star up close: Stunning image shows 86 mile wide crater with a peak as high as Everest on Saturn's moon Mimas
This incredible image shows the Herschel crater on Saturn's moon Mimas, which have given it the nickname 'the real death star'. Named after the icy moon's discoverer, astronomer William Herschel, the crater stretches 86 miles (139 kilometers) wide -- almost one-third of the diameter of Mimas (246 miles or 396 kilometers) itself.
The incredible moment a group of monkeys communicate with a ROBOT baby that they think is one of their own
'Spy in the Wild' is set to preview on UK screens on Thursday, and a new advert shows what is in store. In one of the most adorable scenes, a group of langur monkeys mistakes a robot as one of its own, and even goes into a state of grief when the robot is mistakenly dropped from a height. Other creatures taking centre stage in the series will include crocodiles, ostriches, orangutans and meerkats.
Apple's iPhone turns 10: Here's how the iconic handset has changed over the years
Since the initial announcement in 2007, Apple has introduced 11 new generations of iPhone globally beginning with the iPhone 2G in 2007, drastically redesigning the device on several occasions. It has also altered the screen size and introduced an overall larger version of the phone with the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014, the first iPhone to feature a screen over five inches. The iPhone also sparked the creation of the App Store, which launched in 2008 and has since been at the heart of the creation of a large number of hugely successful mobile app businesses, including the likes of Angry Birds, Uber and Deliveroo.
It's a verified UFO! Chile release footage of a mystery object flying as a navy helicopter after two-year investigation fails to explain it
A mind boggling video from the Chilean navy showing a UFO making unusual movements and omitting plumes of an unknown substance has been released causing swathes of speculation. CEFAA, the Chilean government agency which investigates UFOs, have been studying the footage for two years but have failed to identify the object seen in the country's airspace. The pilots tracked the UAP (Unidentified aerial phenomena) from around 35 to 40 miles away and tried several times to communicate with it but received no response.
Giant meteors are filmed lighting up the sky as they leave a flaming trail above Russian roads during the first major meteor shower of 2017
Two separate dashcam videos show bright flashes of light leaving a flaming trial overhead in the Arkhangelsk region, about 750 miles north of Moscow in Russia. The footage, which captures the first major meteor shower of 2017, was captured by luck as motorists were driving along snow-covered roads in the area earlier this week. According to local media, the meteors formed part of Quadrantids, an annual meteor shower seen in the Northern Hemisphere during December and January.
What a find! The virtual reality glasses that remember where you've left your car keys: New technology recognises objects and 'tracks' their whereabouts for the wearer
The HoloLens device - a set of virtual reality glasses - works by 'remembering' what things look like when the person wearing the glasses holds an item up to tiny cameras fitted into them and says: 'Track this object.' Then, whenever keys or other items 'tracked' by the glasses are in view, the glasses record their location. The wearer will be able to ask the glasses later 'Where are my keys?' and a tiny screen in the corner of the lens will suggest where the glasses last saw them.

The first optical illusion of 2017 has made its way to web and is a picture of sliced ham. The image was shared on a Reddit thread titled, 'This sliced ham looks like it's out of focus'. The stacked deli meat appears to be blurry, but take a closer look and the wood grain table and plastic container are clear as day.
