Barb is alive! Stranger Things' iconic character is brought back from the dead in Golden Globes skit

Musicals are now very much back in vogue thanks to La La Land.

And Stranger Things' now iconic character Barb was brought back from the dead in a song and dance number inspired by the movie at the start of the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Shannon Purser's popular turn suffered an agonising death after being abducted by the The Monster in the hit Netflix retro horror show.

However she came back for one night only in the hilarious skit, which featured her arising angel-like from the pool where she disappeared in the show.

As if that was not enough, she was surrounded by a trope of synchronised swimming lookalikes, with each wearing her trademark geeky hairdo and glasses.

As if that was not enough for fans of the popular programme, which is set to go into a second season, the show's Goonie-esque group of youngsters also made an appearance.

Sadly for fans of the cult character, Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven on the show, confirmed Barb is still dead despite the song and dance number.

Shannon previously revealed her joy at the recognition her turn as ill-fated Barb, the nerd best friend of show heroine Nancy Wheeler who ended up being killed by a bizarre otherworldly lifeform in the sleeper hit.

She said: 'The fan response has been absolutely incredible! This was my first acting credit, so I didn’t really know what to expect.

'I loved the character from the very beginning, and I was really excited to play her.'

Despite its enormous popularity, the hit show was only nominated for a paltry pair of Golden Globes.

And despite her status as a one-time A-lister, Winona Ryder ended up losing out on the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series gong.

The nominees are split by genre within the TV and film categories and the outcome is seen as a predictor of how the Academy Awards might go in February.

The Golden Globes ranks as the third most-watched annual awards show, behind only the Oscars and the Grammys.

The winners are chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are known for springing surprises, especially as its members have no say in choosing the Oscars.
