Casual Craig! Daniel opts for comfort over style as he steps out in low key winter coat for stroll in New York City

His future as James Bond may well be shrouded in uncertainty, but there was a definite sense of purpose about Daniel Craig as he stepped out in New York City on Wednesday afternoon.

The British actor, 48, wrapped up against the biting winter cold in a casual chocolate brown winter coat and matching scarf as he took a stroll through trendy East Village.

Keeping his eyes shielded behind a pair of heavily tinted sunglasses and his head covered by a Liverpool FC cap, Daniel appeared to be upbeat while chatting on his mobile phone.

Out and about: His future as James Bond may well be shrouded in uncertainty, but there was a definite sense of purpose about Daniel Craig as he stepped out in New York City on Wednesday afternoon

The star was taking a short break from what has been a well-received portrayal of Iago in a New York Theatre Workshop production of Shakespeare's Othello.

But while Daniel treads the boards, executives have started planning for the next installment of the successful Bond franchise, set for release in 2018, without knowing if the British actor will take part.

A source told the Daily Mirror: 'Daniel and MGM are currently at a stalemate with him having not spoken to them about Bond.

'They have offered a bigger wage deal, and asked about his filming availability to his reps in 2017, but as yet they have not spoken to Daniel.

'They want Bond 25 out in October 2018, but currently they have no Bond, film dates or knowledge of when that will change.'

However Daniel has given a strong indication that he may well reprise his role for a fifth time, a U-turn on previous comments about preferring to 'slash his own wrists' rather than sign up for another film.

Speaking at the New Yorker Festival, he said: 'I got the best job in the world doing Bond. The things I get to do on a Bond movie and the type of work it is, there's no other job like it.

'If I were to stop doing it – just say – I'd miss it terribly. It's one of the most thrilling things as an actor you can do.

'I love this job. I get a massive kick out of it. And, if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will.'

The actor is also set for the film Logan Lucky along with Katie Holmes and Adam Driver.
