'I see it as the next step!' X Factor's Honey G eyes up hip-hop royalty Missy Elliott for potential duet... despite embarrassing debut single flop

Her dreams of rap stardom have been dealt a premature blow with her debut single The Honey G Show limping to a lowly 149 on the mid-week chart.

But Honey G, who finished in fifth place on The X Factor in December, isn't paying any attention to the negativity as she named Missy Elliot as the person she would most like to collaborate with.

'I really want to start collaborating with some US hip hop artists like Missy Elliott,' the rapper, 35, told Daily Star Online after being dubbed the ITV show's most controversial contestant.

Aiming high: Honey G, who was dubbed as X Factor's most controversial contestant, named Missy Elliot as the person she would like to collaborate with.

'I really see collaborating with US hip hip artists as the next step,' she continued of the talented hip hop star who collaborated with former X Factor champs Little Mix back in 2013.

Aiming high, she also referenced the likes of 'Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Lil' Wayne, Timbaland and Jay Z' as people she would like to work with in the future.

Honey - real name Anna Georgette Gilford - is so serious about taking over the rap industry that she even turned down the offer of appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.

Speaking further, she confessed: 'I'm looking to progress my career as a global rap music artist and it's not going to be productive to me or with what I aspire to do with my career'.

Not a good start: Her dreams of rap stardom have been dealt a premature blow with her debut single The Honey G Show limping to a lowly 149 on the mid-week chart

Meanwhile, Honey's debut single has struggled to make an impact, despite climbing into the iTunes UK top ten following its release on December 23.

An accompanying promotional video has won just 14,000 likes next to 60,900 Dislikes on VEVO, where it has been viewed more than 1.3 million times.

The disappointing reception comes shorty after Honey revealed a second single had already been written by producers at record label Syco.

She told Digital Spy: 'What I want to do is negotiate a deal. We want to make it happen.

'I don’t think there is a specific timescale – I think they are allowed to make two singles with me, and then if they make a third, they have to make an album.'

Big names: The reality show rapper has also named the like of Alicia Keys (L) and Mary J.Blige (R) as people she'd like to work with

The self-styled rapper has been forced to defend herself against accusations of cultural appropriation after dividing fans with her take on urban music during a lengthy run on The X Factor.

'I don’t want people coming into my space, trying to spread negative energy. This movement is going to put the haters to bed,' she told MailOnline.

'People saying I’m an actress, that’s ridiculous, I’ve got a degree in music. I'm known to the BBC. My mum is a pianist, she’s also known to the BBC. I’ve grown up with musical instruments, as a young child, singing along to rock and roll blues.

'I grew up as a young DJ on the music scene, I was clubbing at 14 years old because I was very tall. I picked up street lingo off the underground music scene. I’m about as real as anyone can get, so for people to say stuff like that, it’s ridiculous.'
