Having a smashing time Down Under, Coco? U.S. tennis star Coco Vanderweghe loses her cool at the Sydney International and demolishes her racquet

  • American Coco Vanderweghe had a serious meltdown on Wednesday in Sydney
  • After losing the first set she lost her serve in second game of second set
  • Vanderweghe reacted to this by smashing her racquet three times on ground

American Coco Vanderweghe lost her cool and suffered a serious meltdown during her second-round loss to China's Duan Yingying at the Sydney International on Wednesday.

Already a set down, what was left of the American's composure totally went after she lost her serve in the second game of the second set to her Chinese opponent.

After putting a forehand into the next to lose the game she hopped her racquet off the ground in annoyance but this was just the start of it.

She took out her frustration even more on her racquet by smashing it three times on the ground to leave it in a mangled mess.

However venting some anger obviously didn't help the 25-year-old as she went on to to lose the set 6-2 and the match.

It was a disappointing end for the player who was the Junior US Open champion in 2008, and has also won two WTA titles.

Not that it was the first time that her racquet came out on the wrong end of her anger.

Vandeweghe (pictured) also destroyed a racquet at the Hopman Cup in Perth

She destroyed another one at the Hopman Cup the previous week in Perth after another shot she wasn't proud of.

Vandeweghe was actually leading one set to love at the time in an evenly poised second set when she inexplicably snapped.

After an unforced error brought a long rally to an end, the American took her anger out on her racquet, smashing it into the court twice. She received a racquet abuse violation for her troubles.

Considering this has been the build up to her Australian Open appearance next week, fans can expect fireworks at Melbourne Park.
