Sandlot star turned firefighter Michael Vitar avoids jail time but is placed on unpaid six month suspension following vicious attack on man
Former child star Michael Vitar pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery in a deal he accepted for attacking a man on Halloween in 2015.
While he didn't face prison time, The Sandlot star turned firefighter is currently on an unpaid six month suspension from the fire department, according to TMZ.
Michael, along with two other alleged attackers, beat up a then 22-year-old Samuel Chang in Los Angeles on Halloween night for 'handing out candies to children.'

The 38-year-old Los Angeles fireman played Benjamin Franklin AKA Benny 'the Jet' Rodriguez in the cult classic baseball film The Sandlot.
According to the site, the former actor will have to pay a $2,000 fine to the victim, as well as restitution; the restitution amount will be determined at a hearing, set for next month.
The plea deal also requires that Vitar has to complete 90 days of community service and take 12 months of anger management classes.
Vitar, another off duty fireman Eric Carpenter, 39, and Thomas Molnar, 46, were originally facing four years in prison for felony assault.

To avoid prison time, he accepted the deal where he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery.
One of the two other firefighters is still battling the charges, it was alleged.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office statement alleges Carpenter was hosting a Halloween party when they spotted Chang - whose grandmother lived nearby - walking down the road handing out candy to passing children.

The three then allegedly chased him down the street and jumped him, throwing him to the ground while Carpenter choked him.
TMZ reported that Chang 's pulse had stopped following the attack and the same firefighters had to revive him.
Vitar was initially released on $30,000 bail. Both firefighters were placed on administrative leave with pay while the case continued in court.
As well as The Sandlot, Vitar appeared in a handful of films as a teen, including Mighty Ducks 2 and 3 as Luis Mendoza.
He retired from acting in 1997 and has served with the Los Angeles Fire Department since 2002.
He is married with two sons and one daughter.
