It's the time of year when most of us typically feel down in the dumps, so it's no wonder Princess Eugenie took the opportunity to beat the post festive slump with a winter break.

The royal, 26, and her boyfriend Jack Brooksbank have jetted off to Verbier, Switzerland to visit her mother Sarah Ferguson who lives in a £13m seven-bed chalet in the exclusive resort.

The trio were spotted chatting with other holidaymakers at the exclusive resort, and Eugenie in particular looked to be in high spirits.

Princess Eugenie looked in great spirits as she took time out to visit her mother Fergie in Verbier

The eighth in line to the throne looked chic in a grey checked coat and black dress, and sensibly covered up against the cold in thick black tights.

She beamed widely as she waved to onlookers, no doubt enjoying the break from her job as an associate director at a modern art gallery for the trip.

Her mother, 57, was also dressed for the cold weather, sporting jeans, a denim shirt, a black jumper and furry black snow boots.

Eugenie's longterm love Jack Brooksbank kept the cold at bay in a black puffer jacket.

Verbier holds special significance for the couple as it's where they first met in 2010, while Jack was on a skiing trip with friends.

The pair were rumoured to be engaged at the end of last year after Eugenie was seen with a band on her wedding finger.

However, sources close to the royal shot down the rumours claiming it's a piece of jewellery she's always worn.

Eugenie and Jack were said to be engaged at the end of last year but sources close to the couple have shot down the rumours

Despite the fact there's no wedding on the horizon, Jack's presence on the holiday indicates that he's clearly part of the family.

The red wine merchant, who has been dating Eugenie for six years, also attended Chelsea Flower Show in May with the Queen and senior members of the Royal Family — a privilege granted only to the favoured inner circle.

In September, he and Eugenie were among guests at a shooting weekend hosted by Prince Harry at his father Charles’s Birkhall estate in Aberdeenshire.
