Crown Princess Mary has traded designer gowns for denim jeans, testing out her handball skills in an attempt to ban bullying.

The Danish royal, who last week rang in the new year dressed in couture, looked just as comfortable in a pair of jeans as she played with the children.

Together with the anti-bullying foundation MH24, The Mary Foundation has launched Antibulli which aims to promote team spirit and well-being for children in sport.

The program saw Mary taking part in a handball game with the kids, together with Danish handball champion Mikkel Hansen.

With her hair worn loose over her shoulders the princess threw the ball around with the kids, a smile on her face.

Antibulli aims to help kids between six and 12 years old through education and training exercises that include their coaches and parents.

The princess, who has four children of her own, was pictured holding a bright orange handball.

At one point it appeared she was about to throw it, while the children in the program watched on.

The Mary Foundation focuses on three key areas: Bullying and well-being, domestic violence and loneliness.

Antibulli was trialled in 2016, but was officially launched in January this year.

On The Mary Foundation website it was reported two out of 10 children had experienced bullying in sport to an extent that made them sad, and three out of 10 had experienced exclusion.

One in eight children between Years 3 and 8 had stopped their sporting commitments due to bullying.

Antibulli will be rolled out across five handball clubs in Denmark this year.
