On hold: Geri Horner, 42, has dashed any fans' dreams of a Spice Girls reunion after she is reported to have put newly resurrected group GEM on hold to focus on her family

A source told The Sun: 'Geri's priorities have changed. Her baby is due later this year and rather than force a reunion, she's needs to concentrate on more personal matters.

'Getting all the girls in the studio at the same time proved a tough task. What they needed was one main boss-style figure to pull the strings otherwise they would be constantly in limbo.'

While Geri had hoped to revive the trio - despite Victoria Beckham and Mel C choosing not to return - the group suffered another knock when Rolling Stones' manager Joyce Smyth reportedly also stepped away from the project.

MailOnline have contact Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B's reps for comment.

The news comes as shock to fans after Geri - who originally left the Spice Girls in May 31, 1998 - had spent time in the recording studio with her two bandmates and had one of their tracks leak online in November.

At the time, Emma Bunton, formerly known as Baby Spice, confirmed that the track, Song For Her, was not intended to be GEM's debut single.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Emma said that she was disappointed it had been stolen.

She said: 'We wrote something and it got leaked and it got stolen which is not great but we've had nice feedback.'

Asked if the track was meant to the first single, Emma continued: 'No, it was just a great fun song we wrote together.'

The single leaked on the Internet, leading to speculation that it was GEM's first single, with the voices sounding distinctly like those of the iconic pop stars.

The lyrics in the song detail finding a young woman within who seemed to be lost - perhaps alluding to their younger past in the spotlight.

Words from the song include: 'Where is that girl, is she long gone missing? Can't bring her back, but it's just reminiscing... There in the mirror, she's shouting ‘I've been here forever.'

That was then... The release of the funky track comes after former bandmate Mel C (left) revealed she and fifth member Victoria Beckham (second right) are 'relieved' not to be joining the group
