'I want to go on a date!' Olympic gold medalist and DWTS champion Laurie Hernandez, 16, reveals her main goal for 2017, as she admits she is taking a break before 2020 training

  • The teenage gymnast talked about her plans for this year during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' show
  • An excited Laurie also received an invite from the cast of Law & Order to come and appear on the show 

In 2016 Laurie Hernandez won two Olympic gold medals, one silver and the coveted mirrorball trophy on Dancing With the Stars. 

But during a recent appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' show, the 16-year-old gymnast revealed that she has some very different plans for 2017.

'I think I want to go on a date!' she told Ellen. 'I've never been on a date before and I think that would be a lot of fun. And I want to get my driver's license!'

Ellen, taken aback over the fact that the teen has never been on a date, responded: 'Wow! How are you going to do that? How are you going to meet a guy?'

Wide-eyed Laurie revealed that she hadn't quite thought that far ahead, but said: 'If he looks like Dave Franco, then it's fine.'

Also during the interview Laurie opened up about whether she was planning to attend the the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

'I think so. I mean, I had such a good time at 2016 so I would love to go back and do that again. But, at the same time, I think I want to take a small break,' she said.

The teen has certainly kept herself very busy since the end of the Rio Olympic Games, participating in and eventually winning season 23 of Dancing With the Stars with partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy.

No one was more excited about the win than Laurie's mom apparently, as the gymnast revealed that the trophy is literally the center of attention in her family's home. 

'After the Olympics, I went on the show,' Laurie told Ellen. 'Thankfully I won, and my mom decided that she wanted to put the mirror ball trophy on the coffee table in the center of our living room.'

Extra surprise: Ellen revealed that the cast of Law & Order had recorded a video for Laurie inviting her to come and be on the show

'Where are your gold medals?' Ellen asked, to which Laurie replied that they were hidden away somewhere safe and not on display. 

At the end of the appearance, Ellen revealed that she had a big surprise in store for Laurie, courtesy of the cast of one of her favorite TV shows: Law & Order.

In a video shown to Laurie on the show, the cast of the drama express their admiration for Laurie and invite her to come to the set and be on the show. Laurie was over the moon at the suggestion.
