Maksim Chmerkovskiy declares he's the 'happiest person that's ever lived' after fiancé Peta Murgatroyd gives birth to baby boy

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd welcomed their first child a little over a week ago.

And the 36-year-old star shared the joyous feeling of fatherhood as he took to Instagram on Thursday to express his pure bliss.

He shared a heartwarming picture of himself cradling his son with his back turned to the camera, as he wrote: 'It's been one week plus one day of my fatherhood and I'm the happiest person that's ever lived.'

The Dancing With The Stars contestant also noted how he and his 30-year-old fiancé are keeping their newborn away from the limelight.

He wrote: 'I'm also feeling very protective and now understand what every parent in history have been going through for as long as humans have been giving birth. I don't let too many people come see my son and I don't want to put any of him on social media just yet.'

Adding: '@Petamurgatroyd and I just want to enjoy our little family, together with our loved ones, and take in all the precious moments which we'll never get back. So be sensitive please. Or not. Either way, hope everyone's year is off to an incredible start. Ours sure started with a bang. P.S. Farts, poops and throw-ups are the best!'

Maksim did however share a blurred picture of his son in the background on Friday as he wrote: 'To the paps posted outside the house for the last three days: Not gonna happen! We got security ova here.'

The couple - who announced their pregnancy in June 2016 after getting engaged in 2015 - delivered their son on January 4th.

And the mom-of-one was overly prepared for the arrival of her first child as she had started decorating his room when she was nine months pregnant.

Designed by celebrity nursery designer Vanessa Antonelli, the baby's room has a 'royal and plush' feeling, according to Peta, as well as gold metallic accents with a cream white decor.

Telling Entertainment Tonight, she said: 'Over the years, Maks has collected a huge range of elephant ornaments. We loved the idea of incorporating them in Shai's nursery for good luck, but only if the trunk was up.'

The New Zealand-born dancer took to her Instagram posting a photo of the well-furnished room and wrote: 'I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the well wishes for our little Shai. I've read all the beautiful blessings and he is without a doubt a lucky boy. He is a healthy boy with an incredible appetite for food and love.'

She added: 'We can't wait to share him with you, but for the first most crucial weeks of his life we're just keeping him for ourselves and soaking up these moments. Thank you for your patience and all of your love!'

Meanwhile, there is no official date for the couple's wedding, but Peta and Maksim are panning to tie the knot in the summer.
