George Michael's Australian boyfriend Fadi Fawaz made a harrowing phone call to his nephew after finding the star's dead body on Christmas Day.

Fawaz's nephew Josh Fawaz, 28, picked up the phone to hear his grief-stricken uncle sobbing, The Daily Telegraph reported.

'Oh God, I think he's dead,' the Sydney hairdresser said to his nephew only moments after finding the pop icon dead in his home in Oxfordshire, England.

Josh Fawaz, a DJ who returned to Brisbane last week after living in London for two years, has recounted the distressing phone call.

'I've never heard a grown man cry so much. Fadi called me saying "what am I going to do without him?",' he told The Daily Telegraph.

'I'm the first person to know that he (Michael) passed away.' 

He denied rumours that his uncle had any part to play in the 53-year-old's shock death.
